My dream place would be the falls but since i havent got my greencard i cant go there so leaving that til next year. So yea gracelands memphis....can anyone tell meif it will be worth the 15 hr drive?

If you're gonna drive down to Memphis why not check out Nashville, too? It would be worth the drive to do both but not worth it for Memphis alone. Graceland is nice (esp if you're big into Elvis) but Memphis itself isn't all that great. It's rather dirty and run down IMO. Nashville is much nicer and there's more to do there.

I found Graceland kind of boring. I guess it would depend on whether or not you're a big Elvis fan. I much preferred Sun Records.

I'm biased towards Nashville, too but there is a lot to do in Memphis as well. Great music on Beale Street, awesome BBQ, museums, Mud Island - you can even drive about 45 mins south to Tunica, MS and gamble at various casinos (Harrahs, Gold Strike, Grand Casino, Hollywood, etc etc).

Or you could skip both cities and toodle around the Great Smoky Mountains in east Tennessee.

Really just depends on what you want to do.

But regardless - Tennessee welcomes you!

I agree, Memphis is nothing to see... unless you are an Elvis fan and even that isn't as wonderful as people seem to think! I've been, I was not impressed. Nashville is a nice place, there is lots to do here... I would also suggest that if you like the mountains, you check out Chattanooga (it's the same distance from Nashville as Memphis is - about 3 hours - legally driving, that is...) they have lots of nice homey, welcoming, country places there for staying and dining and site seeing. But, wow, 15 hours is a long drive... whatever you choose, be safe and enjoy!

My mother and my aunt were the Elvis fans, I just grew up watching him.

We went to Memphis and Graceland. I thought OBOY *rme*...but I walked into Graceland and honestly it was just OMG....everything you seen on tv was right in front of you.

Tunica is close by, nice casinos, good prices, you can play nickles, and the drinks are free lol

Why can't you go to Niagara Falls? The Falls are on both sides, Canada and the US....we were just there a couple weeks ago. We didn't go across to the States, just too much hassle with him being a USC, me waiting on the visa and all the kids. AND the line for the bridge was horrible.

thank you all for the info, will look into it ....yea 15 hrs is a long drive, but im quite looking forward to a roap trip..seein all the different sights, shall stay in a motel for a night on the way down so shouldnt be so bad. Defo wanna come south tho as ive heard its more friendly down there.

I would love to see Memphis. I really want to see Graceland, I'm not a huge Elvis fan but I still want to go. And Nashville too. It is a trip me and Mel will take one of these days. And I want to eat some BBQ!!!

I actually looked into a short trip to Memphis a few years ago- it was a toss up between New Orleans and Memphis. New Orleans was a cheaper trip and I booked it. Little did I know back them I would end up being married and living here!

yea it does look pretty ..all those steps dont look too good tho..lol..give me a heart attack just thinking about going up and down all those.

Its been a dream since childhood to go to canada and see the falls...my nan asked me as a child to take her when i got 18,as she was disabled, and she died when i was 15 so its always something ive wanted to do. So its worth waiting til next year.

Hayley, there's an elevator on the Canadian side. It's called Journey under the falls. They have tunnels to lookouts, not alot to see in them, just WATER. But you can walk out to a platform right beside the falls near the bottom, think it was only about $12.95 each. Then there's Maid of the Mist, on either side that's $14.95. You can buy all sorts of passes for both and more.

It is a tourist area, so the prices can get pretty high.

I want to say Bourbon St, but I think that was New Orleans....anyway, main street down near the Peabody in Memphis. Lots of great entertainment, in the parks and the bars at night!!

If you're not a big Elvis fan (or even a mild one) you'll be disappointed with Graceland - it's really for the fans.

Since you're kind of just starting to visit places - try Washington DC (it's closer to you too)....way more interesting things there (as far as historical places, museums, etc)..just a thought..
