Democrat "2024 Autopsy" Debacle Proves Party Still in Trouble for 2028

In a head-scratching move this week, Democratic National Committee chair Ken Martin finally released the "autopsy" of the party's crushing defeat two years ago – an incomplete, ramshackle document that Martin himself had fought to hide from public view.  The controversy surrounding the report's production and chaotic release is yet more evidence of a party at war with itself and facing an internal identity crisis.

Following presidential election years, the losing party typically commissions an internal report to identify what went wrong and how to fix it.  Democrats did so following their drubbing at the ballot box in 2024, and Martin pledged to release the final report in January 2025.  But in December of that year he reversed course, claiming that release of the report could "distract" from the party's midterm efforts.

The 180 sparked loud criticism from many Democrats, which continued to grow until Thursday, when Martin relented and released the unfinished report – with some commentary attached.  [...]

Democrats Akinize Themselves

Seasoned Republicans still wince when recalling Senate elections of 14 and 16 years ago, that season of witches and "legitimate rape."  Christine O’Donnell.  Todd Akin.  Richard Mourdock.  Deeply flawed candidates denied the GOP control of the Senate twice running, and traumatized the party into coining a new word.  It must avoid being "Akinized."

It's the Democrats' turn now.  In the party's haste this midterm to recruit a younger, "fresher" "progressive populist" lineup, it's getting its own season of cuckoo.  Calls for "castration" of "Zionists," mocking slurs of decorated U.S. servicemen, odes to prostitutes, laments for the dead Iranian supreme leader.  They even have their own Wiccan defender.  The media is keeping focus on GOP fights, but these Democrats are getting plenty of attention in their races, causing party leaders to shake.

Or to run, screaming, as in next week's runoff in Texas’ 35th Congressional District.  How else to handle Maureen Galindo, the sex therapist who led the first primary round?  [...]
