Afternoon ladies and gents,

So..I've been happily living here in the Us for 16-ish years now. This forum was a godsend when I was going through immigration/greencard etc (I am a US Citizen now, and have been for 7 years!)

However, I digress. My primary reason for posting today, is that I'm curious how I renew my UK passport from the US. I've read posts that say you can do it online etc, however they all state that the passport should have x amount of time left on it, or be recently expired. Mine expired 4 years ago.
Would this now be a new application, or would I not even be eligible any more, considering I have no longer maintained a residence in the UK? Haven't worked there, haven't lived there etc etc.

Many thanks for any help you folks can provide!

When I tried to renew online, it rejected me but didn’t give a clue why. I double checked the application and the photo upload criteria and tried several times.  Next day I called and it was because I have a second citizenship (US).  That was several years ago and may have changed, but if it rejects you, that is likely the reason. You will have to do it by mail. Even with online, you still have to send your old  passport to London.

Yes you can have a UK passport. .You would have to pay a fee and fill out forms to get your UK citizenship removed.

I don’t know what they qualify as recently expired.
