Hi my nephew got acceptance into Yale, which is the good news! The bad news is that F-1 (student visa) UK appointment is showing as end of August. How can I expedite to get a fast track/emergency appointment please? Thanks in advance

I doubt if it's possible, regardless of whatever school it is.

You can try, but there are other students in the queue. Be prepared to defer

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

There are instructions on how to request an expedited appointment on the Embassy's website.  Check https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/visa-information-services/nonimmigrant-visa-appointments/ and follow the link to the FAQs.  Be sure to scroll down to the "Visa Appointment Questions", as stated in the link.  There are step-by-step instructions.

Not being able to schedue an interview appointment in time to enter the US on an F-1 visa by the program start date listed on the I-20 is one of the reasons an expedite is routinely approved.  NOTE:  Although a student visa can be issued up to 120 days prior to the start date, it can only be used to enter the US within 30 days of the start date.  So, if the acceptance is for the Fall semester, you may not get an immediate interview date, but should get one prior to the end of August when the semester begins.

Good luck!

As Jan notes above, student visas are routinely expedited for students to be able to start on time. So he should definitely follow the expedite instructions above.
To minimize potential delays, he should ensure he has all the documentation required.

  • 2 weeks later...

Send an email to the consulate. He might get lucky and get a July appointment.

From experience (but not in UK), you get a very quick turn around with an F1; less than a week and you get your passport back.

He won't be able to enter the US very early on the F1 visa. Only 30 days before the start of the fall semester.

You can, though, visit on ESTA much earlier to make arrangements of where to live.

The important reason to try to get an earlier appointment is to be able to get settled and also, universities have special days on campus to get a social security number. The best is to do it on campus because otherwise, he'll have to get someone to take him to the worst area in town to get one. He doesn't want to miss that day.
