Signature for CRBA application (merged)

Hi,

     I've been struggling to understand about filing CRBA especially the signatures part.So I am the US citizen living in the State  and won't be present at the interview at consular office.So basically I have to submit, DS-2029 along with DS-5507 and for the passport DS-11 along with DS-3053.So DS-5053 (Statement of consent ) and DS-5507 will have to sign in front of notary but the question is do I have to sign DS-2029 and DS-11 (for passport) parents signature?Any help is appreciated!

No. Don't sign the actual applications for crba or passport. That is what the statement of consent is for and why they need to be notarized. 

 

If you have any doubts, just print out two applications, one with your signature and one without....

 

You can also email the consulate or embassy and ask them about the signatures. The American citizen services section of the consulate/embassy is meant to help Americans and registering the birth abroad of your children.

What confusing is that every forms have statement such as "

THIS SECTION MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBSCRIBED TO BEFORE A CONSULAR OFFICER, NOTARY PUBLIC, OR OTHER PERSON QUALIFIED TO ADMINISTER OATHS

", except form DS-3053(statement of consent) it specifically said it must be notarized in the US. Other than that those DS-2029, 5507 and 11 are confusing.And I don't know whether I have to put my information on ds-2029 because it said "

the parent completing the Form DS-2029 need not provide information on the Form DS-2029 about the other parent completing the Form DS-5507. Instead, the parent completing the Form DS-2029 should check the box by the statement “Please see the accompanying Form DS-5507”.

You do not sign the DS-11; that is taken care of by the DS-3053 -- basically, on that form you are giving consent for the passport to be issued with only the other parent's signature.  (NOTE:  The DS-3053 applies only to the passport application; it has no bearing on the CRBA aplication).

 

You, as the US citizen, should ideally complete the DS-5507 and DS-2029 -- you know more about the details of your physical presence, etc.  If you do so, you should sign tbe DS-2029 and tbe DS-5507 in front of a US notary and submit the notarized forms along with a phoyocopy of the identity document you used at the notary.   (NOTE:  If you are the father and your child was born out of wedlock, you must complete Section B on page 3 and have it notarized).

 

If you are filling out both of these forms, you only need to put the information about the other parent on the DS-5507, as long as you check the indicated box on the DS-2029.

 

Does it all make a little more sense now?  Hope so!

So what you saying is I have to sign both ds-2029 and ds 5507 but not sign ds-11 along with sign ds-5053?And how about the ds-11 section that I attached, do I still have to fill it out? Sorry that I don't understand unless I was explain specifically, may be because I'm too worry.Thank you for any help.

Yes, you sign and notarize the DS-2029 and DS-5507.

 

Your only involvement with the DS-11 is to provide the DS-3053 (I assume that's what you meant by the "ds 5053") since you will not be there.  You can if you want, of course, fill out the forms up until you reach the part you copied here on Page 1, where it clearly says "STOP".  You can then go to Page 2 and fill out the top of the page, until you reach the "PLEASE DO NOT WRITE..." section at the bottom of the page.  That's it -- no signature, no listing of your identifying documents, nothing.  As i said before, your requIred part is covered by the DS-3053.

Thank you so much for your information.I will email directly to consular office to confirm because it still confuse me that the section that I attached instructed just to stop to sign as I interpret and not clearly meaning to stop filling out.Big Big Big Thanks to you!

What is your opinion on one of the member said that I do not need to sign the application (ds-2029 and ds 11)? I attached the screen shoot.

As I stated before -- no signature on DS-11 when you submit the DS-3053; must have notarized signature on DS-2029 and 5507.

Hello house, I’d like some information on this. My husband in the US is the citizen and cannot make it back to Nigeria for the CRBA appointment. We need to sign the DS5507 and from what I read on the sample, it should be signed in front of the consular(I stand to be corrected) please what can I do to present the DS5507 forms signed without him being in Nigeria?

As I understand, the US citizen parent have to file CRBA, not you (non US citizen).Your husband need to sign DS2029 and DS 5507 in front of a notary in US.And for the passport please read the above discussion.

Hello everyone,

So, l am in the same shoes with the poster. My husband is filing a CRBA for our daughter born in Nigeria but he can't come for the interview. He notarized the DS2029 and DS3053. Any ideas on where he can find a passport specialist or designated consular/acceptance agent required to sign the DS5507 in their presence in Fort Worth or Dallas? Please see a copy of the place it's stated on the form DS5507 that these are the only people acceptable? Thank you.
