Hello everyone

I’m in a unpleasant situation rn and I need help as to how I’ll resolve this issue.

my visa was issued on the 18th March but it expires next month. Is that normal?????

i need help because I’m currently in school and will be finishing in July so the plan was I’ll leave for the US once I’m done-which will be either in July /August.

school is in session now and I cannot leave midway through this sem as I’ll be writing my exams next month.

Any help? Should I contact the Embassy to inquire why this has happneed? Thanks…

My exam was done in October 2021. I think on the 13th.

You can leave on the next flight after clearing US customs and immigration.  Look at the small print on your visa, it says something like "upon endorsement serves as a temporary I-551 for up to a year".  So once you enter the US, and immigration stamps your passport you have a GC.  Considering your medical exam was done back in October, it seems like the expiration date is correct.

Good Luck!

You can enter the US, then leave immediately if you wish........ I would not let that visa expire since it would be a big, big hassle to get it re-issued.

Okay thanks. I’ll not let it expire.

As @Dashinka stated, this is completely normal based on your medical exam date.  Good luck.

My exam was done in October 2021. I think on the 13th. - This explains why. The visa is based on when you did your medical and not when you did your interview. So you'll have to enter the US before your visa expires otherwise, you'll have to do another medical to a get a new visa and as you can imagine you don't want to that. Assuming you haven't' had enough time to prepare to travel to the US yet, you can simply come to the US and leave the following day if you want. This will essentially activate your status in the US and you wouldn't need another visa when you are ready to come back. Your stamped US visa at the US POE will act as your permanent status for 1 year.

Like others said, if it's an immigrant visa then just get onto the first plane to US, have them stamp it on entry, and you can walk from arrivals back to departures and leave and have 1 year to return.

If you need more time then you'll need to stick around long enough to file an I-131 for a re-entry permit, do biometrics, (denote that you want the permit sent to a consulate or DHS office abroad on the I-131), and leave for up to 2 years.

Contradictions without citations only make you look dumb.
