I'm wondering because I can't find direct information on it. So for example in my taxes I made 40k how much money should I have in my bank account available for when I submit it? or that doesn't really matter?

I never showed them any banking information because I was relying solely on income.

No specific amount of money is required.  You just have to document what you have.  Since you have in income that exceeds the I-864 requirements (for I-485) you will likely be five.

Interesting, I actually paid the contact an immigration lawyer subscription thingy and the one I got keeps giving me odd answers to questions. She said I should have as the current balance the amount required even if I prove I can make it. So I asked here just in case. She did suggest I have a coSponsor for a higher chance.

What specific amount is required according to your lawyer.  And is she listed as a member at AILA.org ?

None. However, you need to make sure you make enough to support or if not, get a joint sponsor.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

she said i should have around 13 - 17k available at the snap shot. Which personally sounds illogical because anyone can spend all that money the next day and it wouldn't even matter then by the time the fiance travels.

Well that’s wrong.  A purely asset based I-134 with 17K would be rejected.  My guess is you are dealing with a notario.

Unsubscribe. Immigration lawyers can mess up big time and obviously she has no idea what she’s talking about! Sponsors that rely on income do not have to prove guns availability. That’s not how you prove your ability to sponsor!

I don't get it. USCIS has all the info needed, on there website. I guess many people can't read, or have no access to the internet. English is not my first langwitch. I had no trouble with my wifes papers. I also self presented in a court case, and won. READ READ READ fill out the forms and READ them over 10 times. Use visa journey.

Exactly. Fill out your forms in pencil, make drafts, ask questions here, use the VJ guidelines. Lawyers make big mistakes and are not held accountable.

Salud, parse!

Liquid assets (cash, stocks, and whatever else you can turn into money within 1 year) only come into play if you don't make enough.

Other than that, you need to make at least 125% of the US poverty line: https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p

40k income is enough for a family of 5, so you, your K-1 fiance(e), and up to 3 kids (your own from a previous relationship, K-2s, or any kid you might already have with the K-1).

If there's more then you need to supplement your income with assets, K-1s and K-2s are treated as if they were spouse and children of US Citizen, so you need (125% of the poverty line - your income) x 3, that or find a cosponsor in case of which your incomes and household sizes get added together.

Doesnt matter, it's how much you earned, plus the fact you are working. You fall well above the guidelines. Best of luck

It is enough for two persons.  The amount should be above the poverty line per person.
