Hello everyone,

I am finding a lot of conflicting information all over with regard to vaccinations and emigration and vaccinations and adjustment of status. From what I understand (please correct me if I am wrong), the individual can appear for their medical with vaccinations missing and be given said vaccinations at their appointment and where only one shot can be administered from a required vaccination (for example Hepatitis B), the declaration from the panel physician will show a waiver of sorts which will be indicative that the patron should then do their utmost to fulfil the remainder of the course once on American soil.

Following this procedure, my question more specifically relates to adjustment of status. Will the patron be able to achieve this using the original medical with the missing vaccinations? Or, will the vaccinations need to be sought out and a new medical taken in order to file correctly?

With regard to the vaccinations themselves, the ones missing of most concern are Hepatitis B and Varicella. Has anyone experienced the medical process with these same vaccinations missing and if so, what did you do to prepare? After much panic and stress, I have managed to find a way to at least get the ball rolling but I am concerned that the course wouldn't either a) be spaced correctly or b) be completed in time.

Any information pertaining to vaccinations and the emigration process and vaccines and adjustment of status would be fabulous.

Regards,

Pseunonym

~Moved from AOS K1/K3 Case Filing and Progress Reports to AOS K1/K3 process~

While it’s true that you’re not required to complete all vaccinations at an overseas medical, you will run into issues here in the US when you will be searching for a USCIS approved civil surgeon. It’s very difficult to find one who will agree to transcribe vaccinations only. They will force you to do another complete medical to make money off of you. So I strongly advise you to complete all vaccinations abroad.

If the intending immigrant is between 19 and 49 they will only need the following:

- Td or Tdap

- MMR

- Varicella (either shot or history)

- Influenza (seasonal)

I originally asked what Tdap was but I realise now it's Tetanus, diptheria and polio

Also, what are the requirements for a 16 year old? (if you happen to know)

I have been advised that Hep B is a requirement for a lot of schools, this is my concern.

Thanks for your response!

Here’s a CDC link that has instructions for civil surgeons, you will see which vaccines are required at the medical by age. Looks like Hep B is required for those under 19 years old:

pdf found on this page:
