Dear altruists,

Its been 21+ months my brothers case is in Administrative processing (Bangladesh US Embassy). Every month we are sending email to the embassy and getting the same reply-

"Please be informed that additional processing is still required for this case. The processing must be completed before a final decision can be made regarding this case. Review times vary due to factors beyond our control. We are unable to expedite this process or speculate about review times. We will contact you as soon as the process is complete."

Is there anything he can do to expedite the process?

Nope.  AP cannot be expedited.

If you really cannot wait anymore and have thousands of dollars to spare, you may hire a lawyer to help you with a Writ of Mandamus.  A trustworthy lawyer should make it clear to you that all a WOM will guarantee is progress on the case, not approval.  Visa denial is still a possible outcome after WOM.

In some instances in fact a denial is highly probable. A WOM forces a decision. If they do not yet have sufficient information to approve and they have to give a decision, then the only option is to deny.

It is unfortunately not that unusual for some cases to take around 2 years for AP. In this particular instance the overlap with the pandemic has probably meant a longer delay than otherwise.

What was the reason for the Administrative processing when he went for interview?
