My mother in-law is an American citizen. She lives here in Canada. We’re interested in moving to the states. What’s the best path to do so? Some form of visa or get citizenship for my wife and then for myself and our three children? My wife is a nurse. I’m in the trades. We own a $900,000 (Canadian) home.
We need advise.

I am assuming your MIL was unable to pass on citizenship to your wife when she was born or she would already be a citizen?

In the absence of your wife being born a citizen, your mom in law can petition you and your wife but the wait time for a married child is around 13-14 years at present, so it’s not a speedy solution. Also she would have to be living in the US and earning an income there or have a joint sponsor to successfully complete the process for you, but that would only need to be shown in the 13-14 years time when you might interview.

If your wife is a nurse then there is the possibility of a green card via the EB3 employment-based green card route. Suggest you Google this (something like “EB3 nurse”), there are agencies that help get the necessary exams completed, match with employers etc. My understanding is it is usually a three year contract (with pay at a little below market rates) required in exchange for being sponsored for the green card.
