The optics are so bad. He's pulling a real Chris Christie moment. He knew exactly what he was doing, got caught, lied, then blamed his kid for it.

Ys but I need more info. Was it a vacation? Did he already have it planned?  Would he have been in DC if not in Mexico.  To me it's about the same nothing burger as Pelosi getting her hair did and slipping her mask off. It's distraction politics and nothing else.

His story is that his girls wanted a vacation. I don't think it was planned. He's trying to pass it off as he was just dropping them off (presumably with his wife) and then coming straight back.

 

Even if it were planned, I don't think Ted Cruz is going to be financially hit hard by canceling a vacation.

Honestly I feel it was already planned but still the optics are terrible here. He should have known that the Democrats will find anything to make him look bad now and come election time

I don't see why Heidi couldn't have gone alone with the kids. I mean, I can remember when I was a l kid and we'd be pretty much ready to go on vacation, and then something went sideways in a case my dad was working on and he'd send us on without him, or he'd go back if we'd already arrived as a family. This happened several times that I can recall. And my dad isn't Ted Cruz (thankfully), the only people who cared if he didn't show up were his clients.

People who went to first tier Ivies are very keen to tell you where they went (particularly Harvard), but it's not a guarantee of common sense.

Because it was the best lie Ted Cruz or one of his staffers could come up with. He was never going to just come back after dropping them off in another country. Who does that?

 

Pretty crappy that he'd use his kids in his silly lie. Those family values I keep hearing about I guess.

From a practical standpoint, I would think that Senators Cruz and Cornyn along with Gov. Abbot should be requesting FEMA support and federal aid. I know Texas and it's citizens like to believe the fairy tale that they are super independent, but the fact is that per capita, Texas receives more money than California. They are amongst the bottom 10 states in terms of dollars paid to received from the federal government.

 

Or is Texas just going to double down on their ineptitude and continue to let their dilapidated infrastructure continue to crumble, allowing more people to die due to the incompetence of the state government?

To be honest, the last 8 presidents have been objectively terrible, from an economic, as well as foreign and domestic policy standpoint. They have turned this country over to the ultra wealthy, both liberal and conservative, and leveraged their support by bending over for the ultra religious zealots. There is way too much support for religion, and socialism in this country.
