I guess if I was suffering under the current conditions many Texans are suffering under, and I learned that my Senator (Republican or Democrat) had gone on vacation in the middle of a disaster, I'd be pretty salty about that. It's a leadership thing.

I would think anything other than flying to a beach resort in another country.

 

Shovel an infirm neighbor's drive, go out and meet and commiserate with constituents, help serve food in one of the warming shelters, help deliver water to those without, help out your local church in their efforts to help your neighbors. And if all of that is just too much, then stay home.

I would think leaving the state would be a good thing for Cruz and family.  The grid can use whatever breaks it can get.

The optics of what Cruz did was bad, but I agree with @Ban Hammer, there is really nothing he can do other than look like he is doing something.  Considering most of those leaning Left here did not engage in the Democrat Covid hypocrisy thread, there is really not much use engaging in this one.
