Hey all, just had the aos green card interview.

The interviewer didnt approve us there and then. Told us to wait whilst they check some things but we will hear back in a month.  He mentioned that after 2 years we needed to remove conditions- which i took as a good sign as if we were likely going to be denied, he wouldnt say this i thought.

On the way home, i checked the case status, and it says "new card is being produced" (updated Today).

Does this mean its been approved or may it change to something else?

Not all interview officers hold authority  to approve on spot, so it's pretty common what happened to you. Within a day people received a notification their card was in production. Congrats!

What does it mean to remove conditions after 2 years? But also, congrats!

When you arrive on a marriage based visa and then receive your two year green card, your permanent resident status is conditional. In two years, you remove those conditions, by proving your marriage is legitimate, and you didn't come here to circumvent immigration laws. This forum has a lot of info on it:  https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/86-removing-conditions-on-residency-general-discussion/

As an aside, if you have been married for two years when your initial green card is issued, it should be a ten year unconditional green card (so a lot of people whose AOS process was delayed by COVID may end up able to skip removing conditions). However, trying to manipulate immigration timelines to ensure this is a very bad idea.

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but you also have the chance to do the ROC and citizenship together/close to each other if it happens to fall within the 3-yr window you are eligible.  For example, my husband would be eligible for citizenship in August 2022 based on his family-based GC and, if approved, his conditional GC would be good through December 2022.  Thus, we would be submitting the ROC and citizenship within a few months from each other (if we decide to pursue it that rapidly, of course).

December 2020 - AOS interview, approved, and GC received

September 2022 - ROC filed

Yup. ROC processing has been pretty slow for the last few years, and if you apply for naturalization before it's complete you get a combined interview.

My wife's timeline is similar to your husband's (her two-year GC was issued at the end of September 2019).

Thank you for adding that!  I hadn't considered that when I responded.
