Good day y’all! My 17 year old son will be traveling alone from Philippines to Texas. I am also aware that I need to call the airlines to get some assistance for him. Except from CFO, do he need to have a clearance  coming from DSWD for him to be able to fly by himself? Can please someone share their experiences. Thank you!

What sort of assistance to you believe he needs?  17 year olds are not considered unaccompanied minors, as far as I know.  My children have travelled internationally alone at 17 with no issues.

It is his first time to travel. And I can’t able to accompany him. His biological father is currently in Singapore. And I am here in Texas. I’m just thinking that since he is still a minor as 17, he might need a clearance coming from DSWD? Do I or his dad need some authorization papers signed for allowing him to travel outside the country?

I thought most airlines allowed 16yo and older to fly alone internationally (domestically it’s younger, varies by airline). I think you can request unaccompanied minor assistance up to 17 but it’s not automatic at that age. So if you want it, you need to ask for it. Agree Philippines forum is best to ask if there is specific paperwork he needs to leave the country alone at that age.

This seems to be a question better suited for the Philippines forum

My bad. I thought I am in Philippine forum. But I already got an answer. Thank you!
