Hypothetically. How long would an F2B category take to become available if an I130 was filed today. Yesterday was my 21st birthday, so I won't be able to do F2A lol. My step mom is the permanent resident that would be sponsoring me. I was looking at the old visa bulletins for the F2B.

I checked the bulletin for early 2018 and priority dates for F2B then were around in like 2010. Today, the F2B category is at like May 2015. So that means in the span of two and a half years, the category has moved forward 5 years.

Naturally looking at the table, I would say it would take 5 years to become current. But upon further investigation and digging into the speed of the bulletin over time, it would seem that it would take two and a half years (approximately) to advance another five years from 2015 to 2020. Now yes I know, in the future it may retrogress or stall or whatever, so no one can really guess. But I mean does anyone else share my observation? Just want to get second opinions on this as I've never done this before.

Are things looking up for this category in other words?

Well, I believe F2 visas are currently suspended until next year at the earliest.....so I would say, things are not looking up.........

Well yes but that pretty much affects every category. But I mean in general. Not like I'm looking to apply for the actual visa anytime soon.

No, things do not lol good for the F2B category. There are few categories that are suspended. If you have hopes of moving to the US I would suggest to apply now. The wait is only growing, your country of citizenship matters and this visa category could be cut in the future- no one knows. Expect it to be much longer than 2.5 years.

No one outside the US has been receiving F2B visas since miid March when the embassies shut, and won’t until at least January because of the ban. So a sizable backlog is probably building up and you can probably expect some retrogression next year when everyone is once again able to proceed with their cases.

So would it be wise to file right now or as soon as possible?

Why not your father? He became an LPR in 2018, according to your previous posts. Has he abandoned his residency?

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Just looked at the previous posts. Heck, if stepmom had filed F2A back then OP would probably have a green card already, the category went current around a year ago.
