Timeline for Decline/RFE window?

We recently filed our I-485 AOS package and got our I-797C/NOAs in the mail.

Right now on the USCIS website our case status is just listed as "Case was Received"

I was wondering if we're in the clear now or if there's a certain time window where we could be declined or RFE'd.

Is it normal to get I-797C/NOAs if your case gets declined or RFE'd?

How long should we expect USCIS to take for fully processing our package or update our case status on their website? (speaking prior to the 9 month or longer wait for the interview/biometrics, ofc.)

The I-797 means only that USCIS received it....and that you are granted authorized stay until it has been adjudicated.  There is no "in the clear" window.  The process could take months to more than a year.  RFEs can come at any time in the process.

The NOAs you received mean the whole packet was accepted. Now it is time to wait for the biometrics appointment, which will come until the ASCs are open. 

 

Once biometrics are taken, your file is in the queue to be reviewed. It is during this review when an RFE would be issued -if there is something missing-. 

If no RFE is issued, you're in the queue for interview, and waiting times depend on your local office. Check them here:
