So we just received out EAD card and wanted to apply for the Social Security Card. All offices are closed for one on one interviews and cant mail in the info. Does anyone know when they are opening up again or alternatives to apply for a SSN?

I know of only 2 ways for a K-1 entrant to apply for a Social Security number:......apply in person at a SS office....or request one when you submit the I-765.........

Yeah we already have the 765 in hand. But we had applied for the SS before hand and then they lost the paperwork. So we had to wait for the EAD but now all SS offices are closed to the public.

Offices are closed, so the only option is to mail them your original documents, which is really risky.

Your local SSA office could set up a special appointment for you to submit a SS-5 application in-person if you explain your circumstances (have new EAD, don't want to mail in the EAD, etc). It sounds like a few VJ members have done it successfully. You should call your local SSA office to see if it's possible.

SSN isn't needed to begin employment. Though, it can delay your paycheck. See @JFH's experience with working before receiving the SSN: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/647628-enter-usa-with-ir1-visa/?do=findComment&comment=8798601

Yes I know,  but we need it to file taxes and to get a driver's license.  As for special appointments they already said no and have to wait to when ever they decide to open.

You can always file taxes MFS and then amend the tax return whenever she gets the number.
