Hi everyone,

So I got my DQ mail from the NVC yesterday, and the wait for the interview begins after the lockdown ends. I am stuck wondering how this whole situation with COVID-19 is going to affect my interview, because my wife (sponsor/US Citizen) had to file for unemployment as directed by her workplace right after the schools in the US were shut (she's a teacher in a private school). Would this be trouble for me during the interview, whenever it happens? We filed and attached her latest tax return and W2 for 2019, and her income was over the poverty guidelines (~$37,000).

Thanks in advance.

Getting unemployment benefits isn’t the problem. Being unemployed at the time of the interview is the problem.

At the time of the interview she should submit an accurate I-864 which indicates current income.  If she feels she will not be employed at that time, I suggest finding a qualified joint sponsor.

The petitioner/sponsor is my wife, and she lives in the US, and I live in India waiting for the interview at the Mumbai Consulate, and we filed a I-864EZ on the ceac site - so would that mean that I should bring a fresh copy of an I-864 AOS with a joint sponsor for my interview in case she still is unemployed during that time? (I really wish things get better so we don't have to go through a joint sponsor situation, haha).

I hope she gets back to work before I get that interview date. Thanks for replying!
