N-400 April 2020 Filers

Just filed a N-400 for my spouse based on the 3 year marriage rule. Our early eligibility date was at the beginning of April, so we dragged our feet a little, but excited to be done with it. The application fee always comes as a punch to the gut! Ouch!

Just be glad you filed now while the fee is still under 1k!

So I haven't filed the N-400 yet but considering it now since my ROC was recently approved. 

 

What are you guys advice when I start the application? Like what evidence did you upload if you filed under the 3 year rule? Evidence from the whole marriage or just from the ROC filing up until now? How much? I'm so confused. 😆

 

And if I start the application tomorrow, can I finish it later? Like next week or so?

To be honest, I basically just did bank statements, utility bills, leases and the co-habitation stuff. Did not include travel proof, photos or all insurance stuff. Biggest difference I noticed between ROC and this is that they want divorce info, a lot of it. They want the divorce certs, they want the birth dates of previous spouses, wedding dates of previous spouses, etc....if this doesn't apply to you, great! If it does, be prepared to have all that info on hand.

I believe you can. It should save it for a certain amount of time which will allow you to go back and continue later. Be sure to use INTERNET EXPLORER when uploading documents!! We used Firefox and it was a total fail, had to go back and upload every single piece of evidence individually after it had already submitted...

I believe you can. It should save it for a certain amount of time which will allow you to go back and continue later. Be sure to use INTERNET EXPLORER when uploading documents!! We used Firefox and it was a total fail, had to go back and upload every single piece of evidence individually after it had already submitted...

Thank you so much for the information! My husband has one previous marriage, I have already scanned his divorce decree and made a PDF of it, as I'm planning on filing online. I have to look through our old AOS application because I'm certain we had to put their wedding date etc there too. Just so I put the same date on this new application. 

 

So I have looked through the paper copy of the form and everywhere it wants me to fill out everything for the past 5 years, not 3. It's obviously not an issue to fill out employment, addresses etc for the last 5 years (even the foreign ones), but what about the question that asks how many days I have spent outside the US the last 5 years? Do I really have to count every single day I lived in Sweden before I moved to the US? 😳

My husband only counted travel after he moved to the US. He literally didn't even have a US tourist visa before that point and had never even been here before, so he couldn't even put a date when he "left" 5 years ago because he had never even set foot here then! So, yeah, just travel to/from the US since you've been living here, that's how I interpreted it.

Okay cool, that makes it sooo much easier. I have only been outside the US for 10 days, one trip.

Same. USCIS claims on their site that you can use other browsers but that just doesn't hold up to reality. I was informed here that the US gov has optimized everything for Internet Explorer, so that's the one that works best. I'm trying to spread the word around so it doesn't happen to other unsuspecting Firefox/Chrome users who then get stuck with zero successfully uploaded documents like we did.

For me it was 3 years of evidence of cohabitation and commingling of finances, but more heavily weighted to Post-ROC.  So tax returns all of the time, but just the current lease and the last year of quarterly bank/insurance/car statements/etc.

I have a query. I am planning to file the N400 for my Mom. Her state ID is from New Jersey but she is in GA from the last 3 months. Does it matter if we give GA address in N400 or it has to be the one for which ID is issued? She is planning to stay in GA for the long term and she has Medicaid which is also in NJ state.

 

Please advise.

She’ll need to get a GA ID before the interview. The purpose of that is to prove that you live in the state where you’re applying for citizenship.

Just filed online yesterday. Was about time as it will be our 10 year marriage anniversary this summer 😊

This online filing and updates are great. Is showing an estimated case completion of 5 months (September 2020). 
What does estimated wait time (17 days for me) means? Thanks!

The time until you should get your biometrics appt letter. Mine counted down to zero and of course, due to office closures, my estimated wait time is now “taking longer than expected”

I mailed my case on the 20th. Is the mail Case delivery the same like the internet submission? I mean time wise.

 

Is there any impact from the president banning and suspending for N400? As divorced 5 years GC holder.
