Medical Record Worries

I was just searching through my medical records and found an 'incident' from 2002 (when I was 19).

My mother (whom I have no relationship with) took me to the GP for 'anger issues'. I was 19 at the time, and living in a highly stressful situation. My parents had divorced a year prior, and my father started dating a lady and she moved in. We were living in a 4 bedroom house, My Father, His girlfriend, my 3 sisters and the GFs 2 children. Tensions were high, and there were many arguments, obviously, but the note says that there  was a 'serious physical fight' resulting in riot police being called. (I remember no such altercation)

I have no criminal record, as I've had police checks for work in the past, however, I'm now worried that this may cause an issue with the medical side of things.

any help/advice would be gratefully received.

When you get your police certificate and it says “no live trace”, you have a record that was hidden or stepped down. Order a Subject Access Report if it says that.

If the police certificate says “No Trace” then there is nothing on your record.

If your medical summary (NHS printout required at the medical) mentions anger issues, then take a short statement from you GP stating he does not see any anger issues in you and does not believe you to be a threat to others.

You just started so no need to get these today. Maybe first of July or when your NOA2 is expected. Should not be an issue, but you want GP documentation for the medical mental health part and a SAR for the interview if you turn out to have a police record.

Perfect! Thank you. I've had police checks (for work) in the past and nothing has ever come up, so I know that won't be an issue. I'll head to the GP soon to get that statement. I've also got my Father to write something, as the 'incident' involved him. He's just confirmed that it was nothing more than a family fall-out fuelled by teenage hormones. 😅

There are 2 aspects, medical and criminal, obvious not a criminal issue so that leaves medical. If they are going to refuse teenagers for anger issues NOBODY would be getting a visa.

In the UK, a police check for work would not reveal stepped down or expired offences, cautions, and things like that. But the US wants to know everything even when you were a juvenile. So if you get NO TRACE, it didn’t happen in my opinion. Someone recently thought a trip to the police station where it was later completely dropped as a false arrest type thing would be a problem. Yet their police report said “No Trace”. As it turned out at interview No Trace meant it didn’t happen and there was nothing to discuss and explain.

This was a GP note, Riot Police really?

Yeah! It's absolutely ridiculous. My mother had a habit of embellishing stories for her own gain. I'm certain that happened here!

Well it is a good story to tell.

I fully understand that, and you are of course far to close to the situation, I just had this picture in my head....

One of those things you will look back on and wonder if you dreamed it.

I can't believe my mom missed a trick by not threatening to call the riot police on my sister and me when we were teenagers!

Seriously, you have received good advice here. It's almost certainly nothing that will cause you any real issue at interview. It seems so silly that these one-off events, little things that other people did years and years ago, can have knock on effects in the future, but they unfortunately can, even if it's only ultimately to your peace of mind.

Thank you. It's ridiculous that it's even a thing. I'm taking the advice and speaking to my GP, but only after this Covid-19 stuff dies down a bit...
