The Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday asked employees at its DC headquarters to stay away from the office due to a coronavirus scare, becoming the first major federal employer to turn telework due spreading virus.

The announcement from the agency, which is a major financial regulator, came after a day of market turmoil, with the Dow Jones industrial average falling more than 2,000 points. The agency‘s notice, which was emailed out shortly after 8 p.m., required employees working on the 9th floor of its office to stay home and encouraged all others to do the same.

“Out of an abundance of caution, effective immediately the SEC is requiring all Headquarters personnel (employees and contractors) who work on the 9th floor to telework,” the email to employees said.

My company 20,000 central Ohio employees is trying an 80 percent work from home to stress our VPN system this week, I assume it’s a prelude to a fuller WFH strategy

My fiance's employer has ordered the entire San Francisco office to work from home for the rest of the month. We're expecting to hear tomorrow that the office down here is going to be instructed to do the same. We're all set up here for that but I'm wondering how I will deal with having him around all the time!

Hope the stress test works out well. These are commonsense precautions and if it can be done, it probably should be.

Apropos of nothing, saw Bernie in DC today.  He was scurrying through people, seemed in a hurry.  Didn't pause to say hello or talk to anyone.  Pretty silly, for a presidential candidate.

Was he coughing and if so did he do it into his elbow???

I'm asking the important questions.

Had I gotten close enough to him to notice, I'd have tripped him as he scurried.

While that is not a very nice thing to do, it would have been in a time when he doesn't have Secret Service protection yet, so I guess the timing might have worked?
