Hey @laylalex when and if you go back to Pasadena sometime you need to check out El Patron Mexican restaurant on Lake up in Altadena. It is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to.

Oh thank you! I will check it out! I was in Altadena not too long ago before we moved down here last week -- I went to a Christmas lunch with my family in La Canada Flintridge, and one of my uncles and his family live in Altadena on Loma Alta so we all went there for a bit after we ate to digest. We went to La Cabanita, which was decent. The pitchers of margaritas helped. :P

I was a huge fan of the Mediterranean diet (which includes wine btw) and embraced the lifestyle. Less red meat, dairy and more nuts, wholegrains and vegetables. I lost weight when I was religious about it.

The science seemed conclusive on the health benefits based on a Spanish study but it was retracted based on some issues with how random the assignment diets were.

Even if the report is off a bit, there are benefits, the diet is manageable and the food is delicious.  Beyond the diet the philosophy promoted eating together and enjoying company.

I think I am going to dust that book of again, for research.

It's a nutrient dense whole food diet with mostly tasty foods. Can't really go wrong with that.

My approach is also to go with nutrient dense whole foods that taste good, but not with something like the Mediterranean diet or whatever else someone came up with. I go with something specific for myself. I design it around my own likes and dislikes. If I like eggs, I eat eggs. If I don't like olives, don't force myself to eat them. Whatever you eat, it's ultimately not sustainable if you don't like eating it. When it comes to "junk food", if something is nutritionally worthless (like donuts), I avoid them to the extent of not even having them in the house. Knowing myself, if junk food is there, it's relatively certain I will eat it at some point. I make the decision when I buy food not to have anything around that I know I shouldn't have. It's worked pretty good for me. It really annoys the kids though.

I (and perhaps others) have just lost all respect for you, sigh man.

Respect re-extended on a probationary basis, si man.

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I don't mind losing respect over donuts. I will actually buy my kids them on very rare occasions. When you get down to it, a donut , a glass of milk, and a vitamin pill is basically the same as eating a bowl of cereal nowadays. There are better choices though, both for breakfast and for dessert.

No one in their right mind drinks wine, so it's no biggie.

Wine tastes great after buzzing from good liquor (and when it runs out and you have nothing else to drink).

Sister used to hate it when I'd visit and destroy her coveted Crown Royal and leave her with her Cali wine. But she's 5'2 95 lbs so she can get drunk off a shot of wine anyways.

But Rosè is so lovely to drink. :(

Captain Pedant here: it's actually "rosé" with an acute accent, rather than "rosè" with a grave accent.
