The latest update on their website says they are still processing expedited applications that were submitted on or before March 19 and that they will do those. But it may take longer than the usual 2-3 weeks (evidently).

I unfortunately didn't make the deadline and when I applied on March 20 there was no option for expedited service. Routine applications are now "significantly delayed" (previously they were listing 6-8 weeks).

You will get yours this month.

I have no idea when mine will come - may not be until June.

You mean my January submission? That was approved and passport issued. This is another passport application submitted on Monday for a different family member. No idea when it will be processed but just trying to collect data points.

Got it! Yes, who knows. Mine was accepted March 24th and then April 3rd they posted that update about extreme delays! The website posting is a little confusing. Is it your understanding they are still processing new passport applications (routine) but that it's just going to take forever? Many news outlets reported on that as though passports were no longer being issued unless for a life/death emergency.

If I were to guess, at this very moment, routine passport application processing is on hold at the State Department. Even though USPS accepted the application, and probably mailed it that same day or next, the State Department is likely not to even open that envelope for weeks (through April 30). If, on the other hand, the application we sent on 4/06 shows up on the status tracker before 4/30, then State Department is, at least, opening those envelopes. And if that's the case, it's more speculation how much processing they're doing. For example, are they inputting application details in the system? Is a State Department employee verifying eligibility and the citizenship evidence? Are the physical passport printers even staffed? Likely answer to most of these is no but really no way to know for sure. Not planning to go anywhere in 2020 so they can take their sweet time.

Beyond 4/30, I suspect the application backlog will begin to clear for routine applications. Your application is 13 days ahead of ours so I expect it will be processed that much sooner as well. You should enter your info in the table above for the sake of comparison.

I received confirmation of receipt and a tracking number. We shall see. Given that division isn't doing much face to face work I'm not sure what the rationale for abandoning all processing of applications would be. Are those workers being furloughed? I doubt it...

I have a fiance in another country and elderly parents in another country...plus the emergency passport office in NYC is closed....so I don't like the situation I'm in right now.

If I needed to travel on an emergency basis, for example, to visit a parent I would need to go to another city to get the passport.

Anyway, we shall see.

They may not have furloughed the workers but since the declared policy of the US is discouraging Americans from travel, and especially overseas travel, slowing or stopping passport issuance just makes sense.

I understand the circumstances you're facing and hopefully you won't have to travel urgently. I live in a town where the passport agency is still open for emergencies but if I had to leave for Canada on short notice, I'd just go and travel with my Canadian passport and deal with CBP on reentry.

Don't you have dual citizenship and a passport from that country? If you could find a flight out of the US and had to leave on short notice, you could just use that passport and, as a US citizen, deal with lack of US passport on reentry. I'm sure under these circumstances there would be a lot of leeway.

Hopefully things will move soon. I'll update if I get a confirmation receipt.

Yes, I do have dual citizenship. I don't have my US citizenship certificate currently as the state dept has it so I imagine it could be complicated if I tried to get a passport outside the country. Hopefully I won't need to deal with that!

Anyway, we shall see what happens!
