Hi there, 

 

Yes, you have to file the AOS as part of the i130 application. This is to prove you are above the poverty guidelines and can support your parent when they first arrive. 
We also had to repeat the process for the National Visa Centre (NVC) but more financial information was required and my daughter had to provide her last three Tax Transcripts. 
 Our i130 case was approved by USCIS Nebraska. It took exactly 12 months to get approval from Nov 2018-Nov 2019. However this was using the paper system as the online had not been introduced at that time. 

On the USCIS website if you look up Guidance Notes for i130 it provides you with a current list of documents that you need to attach with your i130.

the affidavit of support is needed at the NVC stage not at the beginning of the petition.

As answered above by our fellow VJers here, YES you will need to submit affidavit of support. You will get notified once that form is needed to be completed. As per the documents, if you file online, it will tell you towards the end what you need to upload. Goodluck!

As far as my memory can remember I submitted the following:

 

for my mom:

-My birth cert

-Scanned copy of my US passport (bio page)

-My marriage cert (since my last name changed)

-Her birth cert

 

for my dad:
-Marriage Cert

-His birth cert

-My birth cert

-Scanned copy of my US passport

-My marriage cert

 

If you are filing online, it will tell you what documents you need before you submit your application.

My dad passed away 11 years ago, so do I have to put his information under "Parent 2"?

For online i130 application for parents you will need following documents initially...

 

1. Your birth certificate

2. Your US passport/Naturalization certificate

3. Your parent's marriage certificate

 

Additional documents to support but not necessary are following ....

 

4. Your parents' passports

5. Your driving license

6. Cover letter

7 Name change affidavit if different names are used in past
