naturalization / US citizen question.

 Share

22 posts in this topic

I am looking to petition my fiancee and I am a US Citizen NOT born in the USA NOR naturalized as an adult. I became a citizen UNDER the age of 18 and was given a US passport at the same time my parent was Naturalized. This is the only proof I have as a citizen.  I do have an alien reg # but I do not believe I was issued a Naturalization Certificate.

My questions are:

- having ONLY a US passport, will this suffice as proof of my citizenship for the  I-129F?

- if I were given a Naturalization Certificate where could I get a copy should USCIS require it?  (As far as I know I never got one under my name)

- should I list my alien number on the i-129 (as it asks for an "A #" on the 1st page in Part 1 in Question No. 1) even though I don't have physical proof of a nat. cert.?

Thanks everyone!

  1. Yes
  2. Not needed. See #1.
  3. You can list it, although I believe many people leave it blank as a US Citizen (I don't see where it says to do that in the instructions so I personally would provide it).

The I-129F is only used by USCs, so it seems odd to ask for it if it's impossible to have it. ;)

An A# never goes away...it just becomes moot. If they had one before being a USC, it still belongs to them.

“A” number is short for Alien Registration Number.       It is a unique seven-, eight- or nine-digit number assigned to a non-citizen.

It isn't moot .. a USC does not have an A number.

The guy designing the form most likely was copying another form, and had no clue about what is what.      This is the gubermint ...asking for an "A" of a USC is dumber than dumb so it fits the scheme of things .  ;)

A naturalized citizen at one point was issued an A number.   That is why some  USCs could have had an A number at some point in there life

YMMV

He did at one point, and confirmed so in his original post:

I liken it to having a SS number.  A SS# may not be used (ie. the person moved back outside the country), but the number will always be attached to them.

Same here.

I think most naturalized citizens at some point would have had a A#.

You can liken it to an SS #  .. but it is far from even close.

“A” number is short for Alien Registration Number.       It is a unique seven-, eight- or nine-digit number assigned to a non-citizen.

A naturalization certificate would have it to show the "paper trail" to citizenship.   But a USC does not have an A#   ...... I looked, I don't have one.  ;)
