US citizen may leave citizenship and move to India

Moderators please move this to the right forum, if I posted it in the wrong one.

I became us citizen from GC holder through marriage with my US wife. I have been here for almost 15 years .

We had different kinds of marital problems thruout and recent I did a major mistake and now have ton of credit card bills and hospital bills. Our relationship will never be the same and if the condition goes worser, I may have to return to India. We file taxes jointly and I have applied for bankruptcy by my own .

I know it is $2350 to give away us citizenship and Indian OCI is          $ 275.

Anybody can give me a detail of the process ?? Would be greatly appreciated.

I do not think I have ever seen anybody on here do this, sort of thing that would stick in the mind, now most people on here are duals so not a normal situation, I am pretty sure you can not give up Citizenship if it would make you stateless so you need to show you could go back to Indian citizenship.

I have seen lot Indian people relinquishing US Citizenship to avoid paying taxes in both countries. But I am talking about millionaires. you can always relinquish your US citizenship and go back to Indian citizenship but US government will check if you owe any taxes or something.  I am on return to India forum as well. I read it all the time

To be fair, OP has said he is applying for bankruptcy, he is not talking about running to a different country to leave his debts behind. I don’t know, but I imagine in this credit-record obsessed country, that starting over with a bankruptcy on your record is pretty tough, especially if you don’t have family support. It’s not difficult to see why someone in this position and a marriage breakdown would want to return to his or her home country.
