DV Lottery Scam

It appears a year or two ago my poor mother was scammed out of some money by people saying they would enter her in the Green Card lottery. I realize there is not much I can about this however I just need to make sure of A) How do I know if they truly entered her in the lottery and B) if they did would this affect her getting her permanent residence through me (I am due to apply for my naturalization next year).  She thought it would be a nice surprise if she won and hence why she is only telling me now... She has her visitors visa and has at least been to the the US for a vacation once since she paid these people.

Removal of Conditions

02/28/19    - Sent ROC package to Lewisville, TX by UPS. 

03/05/19    - Delivered to Lewisville, TX by UPS. 

03/09/09    - Received text message from USCIS stating original receipt to follow in mail and a receipt number starting with SRC

03/12/19   - $680 bank check was cashed electronically

03/16/19   - Received I-797 NOA dated 03/08/19

11/4/19     - Received Bio-metrics appointment letter - Appointment 11/15/19

11/15/19  - Completed bio-metrics and received USCIS email same day to status was updated to "Fingerprint Review Was Completed"

01/07/20  -Received notification "Case Transferred And New Office Has Jurisdiction"

01/11/20 - Received letter stating my case has been transferred to the Potomac Service Center

3/19/20 - Received email stating they are ready to schedule an interview

11/4/20 - Received email stating my interview has been scheduled and I will get a letter in the mail

12/15/20 - Had interview and status online updated to new card being produced :)

 

N-400 Naturalization Application

8/22/20 - Submitted N-400 electronically

10/22/20 - Letter issued saying they will reuse my Biomettics

01/07/21 - Interview scheduled for 2/1/21

2/1/21 Had Interview, passed & had Oath Ceremony same day :)

Applying for DV or being scammed and not applying for DV has no affect 

YMMV

I am not aware of any agency that can apply for us immigration on behalf of an applicant

I know in Ghana it is pretty common to go to an internet cafe and have them fill out the diversity lottery application for you online. They usually charge a small (few dollars) fee. If it’s legit they should have provided her with a confirmation page that has her confirmation number and some bio info.

I just did and nothing seems to come up for the last two (there is no confirmation number) , if they did enter her, will it affect my sponsoring her or her chance of getting permanent residence through me?

 

The company is Global USA Green Card and another one called her today - The Immigration Enterprise Group. It just makes me so angry.

You can choose "Forgot Confirmation Number", although it does request an email address instead.

No, it won't impact your petition or her immigrant visa application.

 

No idea on the company, but it sounds like a scam. It's free to apply for DV lottery and does not take long to complete the form (they would have had to provide all thew same info to the company, so it's not faster going with them).

I used the "Forgot Confirmation Number" and tried her details with both her work and personal email address. Nothing comes up.

 

If it won't affect my petition then I really couldn't be bothered other than the money she lost, but that's done.

It’s not really a “scam” other than charging her to do something she could for herself for free. No it won’t impact your application for her, it’s just entering a lottery.

They would use the company email not hers when they entered.
