Long Form Birth Certificate for K1

Hi everyone,

Thank you to everyone who posts - this blog/forum has been so helpful the last few weeks as I prepare for my interview on Sept 18th in Montreal.

I recently discovered that people have been posting about long-form birth certificates required for the interview. I don't have this, but immediately ordered one from Nova Scotia, where I am from. Hoping I get it before my interview but I am wondering, has anyone experienced what happens if all you have is the short form birth certificate? Is this an automatic dismissal?

Thanks all!

Your case cannot be approved until all required documents have been presented.  Most consulates will issue a 221g requesting the additional information

If there is a long form available, I recommend to obtain it, since later, for the Adjustment of Status (AOS - when you are finally married to your US fiance) they want a birth certificate that has AT LEAST one parent's name on it, and in my understanding this happens to be for most countries the long birth certificate.
I would say though that it is NOT an automatic dismissal if you do not get it before the interview. Just talk to them, then they understand.

Good luck with your interview!
