I say again, it's not the men who are having abortions.

This is like saying why do you have to have a license to drive a car, but you don't have to have one to walk? It's apples and oranges.

Ridiculous to use this example as it is not even close to the same.

You know, @fip & jim was just trying to draw attention to how absurd it is that it's WOMEN'S bodies that are so tightly controlled, where men's just aren't. No one forces a parent to circumcise their son, or can stop a vasectomy at any point in a man's life (though it looks like some doctors try). It is about control of women, ultimately, and their ability to do something legal and safe with their bodies.

There are good reasons a woman might not tell her husband. I've mentioned a few before. Are they right for every marriage? No. BC and abortion should be discussed between spouses but ultimately the woman gets the final say. Sorry.

You're right, they do.  So what's the issue?  I mean with between 427,000-1,300,000 abortions in the US annually for the past 14 years, it's pretty clear women are able to make that choice, eh?  24.5 million times, they have opted for abortion.  That's hardly an oppression statistic.

The question is why are women's bodies regulated more than men's?

The answer is because it is the women having the abortions. If men were having abortions, their bodies would be more regulated as well.

It's only ridiculous if you don't put any critical thought into it.

I am not trying to be cute and resent you saying that ### it is totally false. You may disagree with it and that is fine as most would but I am positive I am right. The government constantly makes and updates laws saying what I am allowed to do with my body and what I can and can't do with said body. Even in the privacy of my own home they say what I can and can't do. I could care less if woman are offended that they have to follow the same laws that I have to and if the government is allowed to tell woman the same.

Her "cute" comment was directed at Charles, I do believe.  Or rather, his meme.

Woman are having the abortions true but their body can be regulated as any mans or anyones can be. Woman are not more equal to others and if they can make laws about my body then they can for woman also.

In old days pretty much doctors did circumcisions and nearly went apoplectic. Parents didn't get much of a choice. Thankfully no one forces a parent to do that now, but plenty of very bad advise on the subject and social pressures exist.

I disagree.  The relatively few women who have an abortion against their will or in cases of rape/incest know they are not counted among those who choose to use abortion as birth control.  The same way I don't get offended when someone posts a meme about mass shootings, even though I own a gun.  It's apples and kangaroos IMO.

Unfortunately it's a very sensitive issue, and I find it extremely obnoxious as a meme.

The cute comment was not directed to you. The government makes laws stating what you can and cannot do with your body - I'm saying that's wrong, and frankly Constitutionally wrong. There was nothing to resent in my statement made to you.

Sorry if it hits home with you.  If you can adapt the attitude based on what I was saying, it might help.  Far too often, we as humans generalize, and it tends to sting when one is part of a larger group and the generalization does not fit.

Memes are created by people who want to make a pictorial point without debating the issue.  Sometimes, they are funny.  Sometimes, not so much.  I know something like this hits you harder than some due to your experience with it, and I am truly sorry for that.  Wish it could have been different.  I have been lucky that in my life, I have never been close to the situation.

No problem. I hope you understand that what I'm trying to say is the government can and often does make laws that fly in the face of what our nation was founded on. Because a government says something does not make it right or just. :)

Well, I know that if my SiL saw such a meme it would be rather rude to her. I have shared what happened to her, in terms of context that abortion is not so generalized and clear cut, and is often an agonizing decision for a woman to make. She thinks of her lost baby every single day, but she also thinks of the horrific suffering that baby went through before it died. She agonizes over her decision to keep it, being fed false hope, and losing that baby to a cruel death. The psychological and physical anguish she went through, still goes through... and what her entire family went through still haunts her. It's a serious subject... not befitting of a meme... sorry. :(

I agree with you on all the above.  It certainly seems insensitive from her POV, and yours.  I have known women who had miscarriages who feel the same way you are talking about.  It is devastating.

Just realize it wasn't made as a way to argue with you.  It refers to the millions and millions of aborted babies who didn't get the choice on whether to live or die.  Their mothers did mostly because they realized they made a mistake.  That is the travesty of the meme, and the major talking point of those who are against abortion in general, me thinks.

I know you're trying to be cute... but this is quite offensive to those women and girls who have had to have abortions in cases of rape, incest, and those that have made the anguishing choice to abort because of severe defects from which the baby would never recover. It's also offensive in a way to those women who have chosen to keep a baby instead of following a recommendation and having the child suffer an agonizing death from those defects after birth. Most women take abortion very seriously.

Our body is our own no matter what the government tells us. The concept that it is owned by the government flies in the face of the establishment of freedom and liberty.

If the socialist get into power, the government will make bodily decisions for everyone.

I think the onus is also on both parties in the mistake making. I often think though that many girls and women might choose to not have an abortion if they did not receive so much hatred and shame or lack of support from their family, friends, church... you name it. Men and boys that take off at the first notice of pregnancy.. Not to mention the whole attitude toward using the pill as well. There are people that believe that BC is wrong too and makes our bodies have constant mini-abortions, you know (even in cases when medically necessary). Steve King has been down that road before actually!
