I came into US as an asylee, I'm on a removal proceedings. I'm married now, filed for adjustment of status, i130 was approved but they put administrative closure on my green card application. They said I am in removal proceedings and am not an arriving alien. But I am an arriving alien and was inspected when I came in. My master hearing was Aug 1 but my lawyer said we can't close my court case that we have to wait for the USCIS to issue my green card before we can close it. She has already sent the proof to them to show that I am an arriving alien since April this year, we haven't heard from USCIS till now. My individual hearing is scheduled for 2022. But my friend who has the similar case as I have was able to close his asylum case before he got his green card approved. Is my lawyer right? That I can't close my case unless my green card is approved

your lawyer is wrong. You can not file a i-485 while in removal. You have to ask the judge to close your case and then you can file a i-485. Fire that lawyer and hire a new one. You should not take chances using an incompetent lawyer for removal
