My mom is 59, healthy and recently retired in her home country . But she intends to work if she comes to USA. I am still a student but I am expected to earn big after my graduation late next year. Can I use a joint sponsor for her? Ho much a joint sponsor income should be? By the way my household income is 80k as my wife works. We have two children

The expected earnings would not be considered for the I-864 itself...that just looks at actual income. But your household income can be counted (via an I-864A from your wife).

A joint sponsor is always an option as well.

It's impossible to say exactly how it will be viewed as there's many, many factors for the CO to consider. For instance, $60k/year is reasonably enough for my wife, me, and my parents to live on in my area. It's not enough for even just my wife and I in NYC, though. So the $80k figure doesn't mean too much without context. You're looking at supporting a total of at least 5 people (counting only your mother here)...is $80k/year reasonably enough to do so in your area? You would know this much better than anybody here. Keep in mind this is not considering your future employment...just the $80k from your wife.

If, by the time you sponsor your mother, you are actually employed then you can combine that income with your wife. Again it's a judgement call, but I would assume it would be a much better picture than the $80k alone.

Too many holes in this. So you recently moved to Vancouver, WA? Because you only just naturalized through Buffalo field office. But you claimed to be living in both Syracuse, NY and somewhere in Illinois also at the same time. At least your first four posts ever made on the site were “posted by someone else using my account”, including a post the very day you joined.

I’m in WA too and you and I both know that this is one of most expensive states to live in. $80k is very low for WA. Our household is 2 people and we have almost double that income. We are comfortable. But there’s no way we could have the standard of living we want if there were 5 or 6 of us on half this income in WA.

Yikes. The median primary home price in my area is < $100k.

Edit: Apparently it's barely over $40k. Ouch.

@JFH  Yes. Seattle is expensive. but Vancouver is half cheaper. Average home price is 280k here vs Seattle 714k.  A salary of 80k in vancouver is equal to a salary of 140k in Seattle

I’m not in Seattle either. But WA in general is one of the most expensive places to live. And by your own admission you are supporting two households on that - your place in Syracuse and your home in Vancouver. You need a larger than average home for 6 people.

But anyway, not our call. It will be up to the CO whether it’s approved or not. If the CO has any experience of WA....

And I’m telling you I don’t live in Seattle, never have, never wish to. Yes, it’s cheaper in other parts of Washington. Yes, Seattle is a law unto itself when it comes to anything. But Vancouver, where you live (except when you want a faster processing time and then you claim your residence is in Syracuse) and Ocean Shores where I live full-time are still more expensive than a good 90% of the USA. Only California has higher gas prices in the lower 48, for example.

And what I’m  saying is that they are not going to look at your zip and say “oh he lives in Vancouver so $80k for a household of 6 is easy”, they are going to look at the whole picture. They look at things like healthcare. Such costs don’t change between Seattle and Vancouver, for example.

You’ve just proved my point - food and groceries are equal! That’s the biggest regular expense for a household of 6 (after housing).
