Dad gets slammed by women after telling them to have kids before they’re 30 because after that ‘90% of your eggs are dead’

Hope I'm posting this right (I read the stickied post on news articles):

(A little embarrassed this is from The Sun!)

Stefan's full tweet reads: "Ladies, by the time you are 30, 90% of your eggs are dead.

"Get married young, have your babies, THEN have your career.

"You have 40 years to work if you want to, you only have a short time to have children.

"Listen to Mother Nature - she loves you and wants you to be happy. :)."

As someone who was bullied by her ex into trying to have children before I was 30 (it didn't happen for us, ever, thankfully), I find this really outrageous. It's bad enough that women face expectations that they HAVE to reproduce to somehow be a "real" woman (whatever that means), but now it has to be before you're 30 or you're useless?

This is where Biology and Feminism hit each other hard.

Obviously Women's rights should prevail.

That guy has been an idiot for a long time. Pay no attention to his self-gratification tweets. I'm way past 30, with no babies yet. It may not even be a possibility for certain reasons, but even after the doctors told mom she wouldn't be able to have kids anymore? Guess who popped out when she was in her late 40s and thought she was in early meno?

Don't get me wrong. We love kids and if I end up really not having them, then I think we would gladly adopt. But a woman's true worth isn't in the value of her reproductive organs.

Thank you! I'm 34, and my fiance already has a daughter who lives with her mum in England. I used to think I wanted kids, but now I'm... ambivalent. Some of that is related, I think, to my ex really wanting to have a child, and me thinking "this is so not a good idea" with him. I have so much catching up to do in my life in terms of my new career, and in getting my relationship rock solid before we actually get married. I still get flack from my mom about hurrying up though, which if anything makes me want to have kids less! If I end up never having a child, I can live with being a stepmother.

But if that's true, then what would the point be of posting like half of the threads in this forum? I mean, why is the Democratic socialists convention thread posted if not to make fun of the participants, who I think Bill&Katya disagrees with?

Oh, and I had never heard of this idiot before! I am always so amazed at how many men have such strong opinions about what women's bodies are supposed to look like and what they are supposed to be doing with them, or not doing with them. I generally don't have any opinions about what men are doing with their bodies -- I am more concerned with what they are doing with their minds and what is coming out of their mouths.

We all have use by dates, and there is degradation before then, just life.

Sure. But we're also not cookie cutter ladies. Plenty of us, unable to have children, seemingly manage to have them. Still others have taken advantage of medical advancements to have them. But beyond that, I wish more women would consider opening their hearts to children that are already *here* and desperately needing a loving home.

A woman's biological ability to have children should not be her sole value. I read a recent article about falling marriage and birth rates in Japan. It was once a *must* for a woman to be married by age 30 or else be shamed. Furthermore they'd be shamed for not having kids or not remaining a homemaker. But now things have changed. Women are deciding to hold off on marriages and focus on careers. They have heard too many unhappy marriages from couples pressured into it, or women who are left to do everything while the man does nothing to help. They like better financial independence and happiness in having the confidence to support themselves. In one poll women said they'd be more than happy to have babies, in fact they welcomed them. It was just the men they didn't want to put up with.

There are no "sell by" or "use by" dates stamped on us when we're put in our first onesie. And when we're talking about women, and their fertility ("use by") and when they want to start having sex ("sell by") it just reduces us to our reproductive organs.

Gross.

No kidding! I have been living on my own now for the past 2.5 years as my fiance and I figured out how/whether we wanted to be together. We're now FINALLY moving in together at the end of the year, after the wedding I posted about in another thread that is certain to turn into the hottest mess ever. But as much as I have wanted this for quite a while, I realize that I am going to have to live with a man again. 😕 A man who can't cook, can't pick up his socks until I'm over at the weekend, leaves little mysterious hairs all over the bathroom floor, expects me to watch the same Black Mirror episodes over and over... I mean, he's better than the last one but sometimes I think, what the *bleep* am I doing? :D

Gross.

Just how things were designed, not everybody has the same dates and obviously there are differences between the genders but it goes in one direction. I always understood as a rule of thumb that 30 was the dividing age, anything after that and it got trickier. And did so exponentially.

Biology just has not caught up with modern life styles.

Is it? I have a medical condition that makes it very difficult to become pregnant and maintain that pregnancy without a lot of help, and even then it may not work. I was born this way. From a biological standpoint my female 'fertility' is on vacation somewhere, hopefully happy with itself. Millions of women suffer from varying degrees, and some have had success and some haven't... but one thing science has noticed is this problem is affecting more women than ever previously known.

More and more women are now successfully having babies later in life. As births decline in younger women, they are rising in older women. So I don't think fertility is as set in stone as some previously believed. They are not all using IVF either. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2018/05/19/childbearing-why-women-40-s-having-more-babies/624028002/ Fun fact: I just recently learned there's a shortage of IVF willing donors in the UK, leading to further declining birth rates, very long wait times on the NHS, and greater difficulty finding reliable donors in the first place. I would rather a couple have a baby when they are both ready, financial stable, and able.

Personally, I am convinced going through my own diagnosis, that there is a lot in OBGYN medicine that lacks funding and research.  https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2018/05/the-rise-of-older-mothers/560555/

I think I struck the jackpot in finding me a man that can cook and help pick up stuff, but his father set the example for him. That's not to say he can't have those moments, and I'll ask him how X room suddenly got into a state of a disaster, and he'll sheepishly grin at me.
