Just curious ~ why so desperate to come to the US suddenly now?

Cousins cannot petition for each other, btw.

Did I sound desperate? I might have misrepresented myself. I am in no way desperate or in a hurry ("come to the US suddenly now?"). For the longest time I did not think I would consider living anywhere else quite honestly. I am, however, dismayed with the way things are politically and economically in the Philippines and what that may entail in the long run if that continues. I do know that I was petitioned some time ago and was wondering if there were any chances I could still pursue it. If it that were the case, I will have given myself some 5 to 7 more years to prepare financially as well probably go back to school to make myself more competitive or least close the gap between myself and the average workforce demographics in the US. It does appear that I can't and while I am not easily discouraged and still looking for other options (I am very persistent) and if in the end this does not materialize I will not lose sleep over it or sink into depths of despair and loathing. But I will explore options wherever and whenever I can before calling it quits.

and yes, I do understood that cousins can't petition each other. Thanks for your response though.

That is in fact an angle I was looking at, another reason for the 5 to 7 year timeline I had previously stated, and was hoping that the attitude towards immigrants may have already shifted by then. Although admittedly, what I know of Trump is only through media (both Fox and CNN) which may or may not be an accurate representation of him. Duterte will only be in power until 2022, but he practically owns both houses of Congress and they may very well change the constitution to extend his term. That or his daughter runs for President who is also already gaining a lot of popularity and political clout. Our islands and waters are being taken over by the Chinese and if you ever get a chance to go to Metro Manila, the place is over run by mainland Chinese by the millions. They have taken over most residential towers, loud and rude AF, do not follow our laws and run businesses that employ and accept Chinese exclusively. Boracay, our top tourist destination, divided into 3 stations (Stations 1, 2 and 3), are now over run by them, Station 2 specifically now almost exclusively Chinese; hotels, resto's, bar's, groceries etc. They also are the top violators of Island regulations. It's nuts. Anyways, this has gotten political but that's where this desire to move elsewhere is coming from. I will continue to look for options but like I said, if I am unsuccessful then it is what it is. I will probably have to start learning Mandarin.

unless I marry a US citizen I guess lol which is not an option for me lol

it'll be a little bit more difficult to immigrate to the US without immediate relatives, a graduate degree from a US university, nursing degree or any other employer petition... unless you're worldwide/countrywide famous in your field or have the required money for investment.

How about trying your luck with countries with points based immigration like Canada?

Yes, Canada is an option too actually. I just thought the US would be an easier transition coz of my cousin who can help me network, find employers and get settled. But it looks like the odds are simply not in my favor.

I feel that I really need to clarify this, I am not at all desperate. Nor will I ever consider marriage as an option to move to the US. I am engaged and looking to start a family and was exploring the possibility of giving them a better setup overall than what we have in the Ph. I had petitioned in the past and was wondering if there was any chance I could still consummate that. So when people said that that ship has sailed, I asked if other Visa categories might apply to me, that may have been misconstrued as desperation. I did some reading first before coming here, and was simply pasting stuff that I read to ask if it may apply to me. Perhaps I hadn't been very clear, I do want to move to the US, yes. Am I desperate? No. Am I exploring possibilities? Yes. Do I want to marry someone from the US to get there? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I do appreciate all the answers and responses I've been getting.

Canada also has an issue with Chinese, have a look at Vancouver.

It is a great option. My brother just got selected in the Express Entry program. He will get the Canadian Permanent Residence in about 6 months.

Yeah no kidding. My brother and one of my buddies live in Van. My friend bought his first house last year, actually a condo, less than 800 sq ft, for $600,000. I told him my house is 2500 sq ft and  it was $245k. He didn’t speak to me for a month.

I better started participating in the Canadian equivalent of this forum

Yes, you want to start researching the Express Entry Program. It’s merit-based. You get certain points for your age, your degree, your work experience, your English score, ... if you can get around the 450-460 points range, you’re good. The key is to get as high as an English score as you can.

This program is very generous. It allows anybody to apply from anywhere in the world and as long as you meet the cut-off score, you will get an invitation to be a Canadian Permanent Resident.

One more thing of note, the Canadian Federal election is this October. I have a feeling Trudeau will get his behind kicked out. Whoever gets elected might not be as generous as Trudeau is, immigration wide. So maybe get going sooner than later
