K1 Visa Interview with no “yes” or “no” answer

Hey everyone. My fiancée and I just had our interview this morning in Bogota, Colombia. We had all our documentation and answered all the questions honestly and correctly, but at the end the interviewer said they couldn’t approve the visa today because they said they were missing something that prevented them from giving us an answer right away. The interviewer said he would try to process it tomorrow, and when I asked if we were missing any documents he said no it looks like

its all here, it was just something on their end they had to take care of. 

 

They kept my fiancées passport, which I’ve heard is a good sign, but we are still worried as to why it couldn’t be approved today. Has anyone else ran into this before?

It a good sign, they have your passport down,do they give you form 221g slip? And what your case status say?

The only time you worry is if you receive a 221g. If they took your passport and said he would " try to process it tomorrow", that sounds good to me. Note that it can take a lot longer than a couple days to process, and it's actually not common to get the approval immediately.

No slip was given when we left. And the last I checked our case still said “Ready” for the interview.

Congratulations!!!! Now you will enter the USA once you receive the visa and then marry within 90 days. If you do not marry within 2 weeks of arriving you can attempt to get a social security card at the local office. If you do not get a SSN before marrying you will have to wait till you receive your I-765 or green card. Once you enter the USA and marry within the 90 days you will do the following:

 

File I-485 (Adjustment of Status), I-765 (Employment Authorization), and I-131 (Advanced Parole). I-131 and I-765 do not have a fee if filed with I-485. Also I-765 is for so that you can work and I-131 is in case you need to travel before getting your green card. After that you have the waiting game. Take up a hobby, have date nights and enjoy time together.
