Earned money during AOS - W-9

Hello!

My wife recently attended a science event and won a small prize for placing in a competition she was part of, and they are requesting that she fill out a W-9 to receive the prize. I'm wondering what we should do. She is currently in the process of AOS (from the K-1 visa), and we have not yet received her EAD - but she does have her SSN.

I have done some reading in prior VisaJourney threads and I see that a W-9 should be okay to fill out, since she can be considered a resident alien for tax purposes (even though she has not yet received her green card) - but I wanted to get a sanity check if at all possible.

This prize is pretty insubstantial (way less than what we spent sending her to this event), so if filling out the W-9 form will jeopardize our AOS filing, I'd rather not take the chance.

Thanks for your assistance!
