GENEVA—Saying they had no real problem with wealthy thrill-seekers failing in their efforts to scale the tallest mountain on earth, the entire human population admitted Tuesday that they are, in fact, completely fine with rich people dying on Mount Everest. “These guys shelling out a hundred grand to climb a 29,000-foot peak with a team of Sherpas are obviously aware that many people have died in the attempt, so they kind of know what they’re getting into, right?” said Cleveland resident Richard Warvil, echoing the sentiments of the world’s 7.7 billion people, who acknowledged the deaths of affluent amateur climbers who voluntarily ascend to heights at which oxygen stops reaching the brain don’t really upset them all that much.

If you see the traffic jams up to the summit it’s pure insanity. Why someone wants to risk it is beyond me? Limited time to get up/down and you are literally stuck with those behind/in front.

 

Getting to the top is only 1/2 way - still need to get back down.

Getting back down is sometimes the more challenging part.  Beyond that, I do agree, this is pure insanity for those with money to burn.

Well they could go to Florida and die of gators or sharks. I guess dying in beauty isn't bad when you're rich.

I've always wanted to die cold and alone.   I'm not retired or rich.   But I've been to Nepal!

Don’t get me wrong I’d love to climb Everest - no doubt an amazing experience. However with over crowding with summit attempts it just makes it too dangerous to do. 

 

Nepal should be thinking safety not how many permits it can sell.
