WASHINGTON — Let’s just call this reason No. 580 not to leave your kids alone with technology: They might lock you out of it.

That’s what happened over the weekend to Evan Osnos, a staff writer at the Brookings Institution in Washington.

He put out a tweet — or a cry for help — letting the world know of the little situation his toddler put him in.

“Uh, this looks fake but, alas, it’s our iPad today after 3-year-old tried (repeatedly) to unlock. Ideas?” Osnos tweeted.
 
 
    I always wondered why Apple would have a password lock that lasts 100's of years when they only release these devices with a built in obsolescence of 2 to 3 years.

Really...? This seems a little extreme as far as security measures go. Is there no way to restore the password?

   I think the DFU mode suggestion would work. It used to work on earlier versions of IOS, but they have gotten insane with the security protocols now. I used to love my iPhone but Apple's shenanigans basically drove me to use Android phones and I have no regrets about that. My Ipad is gathering dust right now. It spends most of it's time trying to download the latest IOS upgrade no matter how many times I have said not to.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Those kids missed this snazzy tutorial!

 

 

Edit: This actually gave me an idea...why not have a rotary phone style password input on phones and tablets? That would prevent pesky kids from accidentally trying over and over...
