It doesnt hurt for her to try for a B visa.  Worst csse is she's denied and you have a plan B.  On a side note, I'd never marry someone who refused to visit my country.

Same.  It'd be like insulting my roots/entire culture.  And then there's the whole "never get to spend holidays/special events together with the other spouse's family".

Hopefully OP doesn't mean he'll NEVER visit her home country...like never EVER...because that'd really suck on a lot of levels for his intended wife.

Well, we don't know his reasons... I met my now husband when I visited (extensively) his home country, but the political and social circumstances have worsened to a point that I don't feel safe going back, and especially not taking my children there; even though they are half Venezuelan.  However, my husband doesn't have an issue with that.  Actually he hasn't felt safe visiting either.

It's genuinely a shame.  I hope Venezuela gets back to being a friendly place to visit in my lifetime :(

I loathe that show.

They hit up people on here once a year about usually to see if they want to participate... they had us go into "interview" with them on skype and oh man, immediately I was like "No thanks". They want everything to be so exaggerated and fake it made me actually dislike the show. I watched the show mostly for laughs until that ordeal, then no more.

I'm curious as to "why" the OP can't go to China, said they don't want to "go into it"... perhaps something barring him from obtaining a Chinese visa?

That's what I'm beginning to wonder too.

K1 is not a 'let's try and if we like it we'll marry in the future' visa. If you go the K1 way, you need to be sure that you want to get married.

You're better off just exploring this relationship for whatever time you guys need to determine if you want to spend the rest of your life together and just visit each other.

I wish someone would tell that to the 'talking heads' in 90 Day Fiancee.

OP plenty of others have said it, but here you are: K1 is not a "lets see" visa.  You need to be sure. It's a hell of a lot of time and money to waste otherwise, not to mention an invasion of privacy (really this one is subjective based on how private of a person you are) and opening yourself and your relationship up to the judgement of strangers. Don't waste the time and money (and delay people who ARE sure!) if you're just wanting to "give it a shot"

The truth is pretty much for political reasons.  I have no criminal background at all, have a good job, etc... I am open-minded and I like the Chinese people and culture like nearly most groups (excluding pockets of criminal gangs) of people.  The Chinese woman in question sent me pictures of her town over the Lantern Festival at the end of the Chinese new year and it looked amazing and I would have loved to see it all for myself.

The US State Department has issued a warning about "exit bans" based upon examples of Chinese authorities preventing US citizens from leaving China through arbitrary rule enforcement when attempting to leave China.

see: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/china-travel-advisory.html

I don't like the severe limitations China puts on its internet access, and other restriction on freedoms.  If I went to China, I fear that they might grant me a visa to enter but not to leave because I'd be on their turf.

It makes me very sad too because I'd love to enjoy their culture.

Are you Chinese citizen? The advisory is not very clear, but most of it seem to apply specifically to dual nationality Chinese / US citizens. There is no "exit visa" for US Citizen who do not have Chinese citizenship. The way I see it, regardless what your personal feelings are about government of a country, ANY country that you visit as long as you abide by the rules of the place you will be fine. And yes, that would mean keeping your mouth shot about Tibet or Internet firewall or Falun Gong or multitude of other things. And no stealing portraits of Chairman Mao. But chances are you greatly overestimating your importance or interest of Chinese government in detaining you for whatever trivial reason. As always, make your decisions and good luck in whichever pass you choose.

  • The company I work for has multiple plans in China and I often travel there with many of my co-workers  - I also have seen a lot of Americans travels there with various reasons, most on business trips. Unless you are high profile: working for US government, traveling with a lot of cash in hand, etc.
  • There are many big US companies, thus there are thousand of American citizens being there.
  • Regarding of restriction of freedoms, you will be there for your love one, understand more about her culture, her family, and enjoy the views.  You travel there does not really mean you support the communists.
