Previously sponsor someone whos is in inmigration process and now I Applied for a Visa for my Fiance

August 7, 2022: Wife filed N-400 Online under 5 year rule.

November 10, 2022: Received "Interview is scheduled" letter.

December 12, 2022:  Received email from Dallas office informing me (spouse) to be there for combo interview.

December 14, 2022: Combo Interview for I-751 and N-400 Conducted.

January 26, 2023: Wife's Oath Ceremony completed at the Plano Event Center, Plano, Texas!!!😁

February 6, 2023: Wife's Passport Application submitted in Dallas, Texas.

March 21, 2023:   Wife's Passport Delivered!!!!

May 15, 2023 (about):  Naturalization Certificate returned from Passport agency!!

 

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Then you are not on the hook for anything. The I-134 is a non-binding document unlike the 864...

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

What is the difference between I-134 and I-864? Do you know which needs to be used for K-1 VISA?

I134 at the embassy for the Visa,  i864 to get green card after k1 entry

During the interview phase you are usually asked to submit a 134 as a sponsor or co sponsor. It is non binding. An 864 is used during adjustment of status after the k1 beneficiary arrives in the USA and wants to apply for a "green card."

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

Not trying to speak for missileman... What you put on the 134 for your friend is not binding. You do not have to put it on your 134. It would only be binding if you filled out and signed an 864 for your friend when they attempt to adjust status. If you do not want to support your friend DON'T. Do not fill out and sign an 864 for them...

I made the huge mistake of signing an 864 two years ago for a friend without exactly knowing the seriousness of it.  My "Friend" told me it would be only while  he got his social security number. It was my fault for trusting and not reading. 

Now  I am signing I-134  for the K-1 Visa .

Then you are on the hook and you have to list this on your I-134 and later on the 864.
