Seems like a million things going on here.. it's obvious he entered on a b2 visa with an intent to not return home.. the student thing which ain't easy with an LPR spouse, or asking about efforts to adjust status. That makes it harder for others from his country (Jordan?) who genuinely want to visit on a B2.

He night have a challenge on his hand going from a barber to getting a hang of computer science.. but may not even successfully COS to student status.

Whatever country of origin the friend belongs to, the friend's desire to COS/AOS on a B2 visa within a month of US admission does a disservice to others from that country who apply for a B2 on genuine grounds but are rejected based on the actions of those before them.

Therefore, the country of origin of your friend could be germane to the discussion, whether stated here or not.
