The only thing he did wrong is the little tough guy act at the end. I would advise anyone in this situation, don't publicly invite "all comers" to try you out, because someone just might take you up on it. The next guy might be armed too. It's better to do what you have to do and move on.

Not only that, when you have just shot two people, albeit legally it is best to shut the frig up. You never know when it could turn on you legally

The criminals' families will surely find a reason and a way to sue the homeowner.

Why? It didn’t happen in Massachusetts where criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens. Where a criminal can come into your home and hold your family at gunpoint and you’re the bad guy if your shoot them?

Yeah best to say nothing, especially to the media. I'm not saying the guy meant anything by it. Like most of us, I doubt he planned in advance what he would say after being in a life or death situation. I don't imagine he actually wants another intruder to come by. It's just something that came out, and I'm sure in that situation, chances are high I would say something weird or stupid off the cuff too.

I remember a story from back in the 1990s where a guy got his farmhouse broken into in AR.  He shot the perp (I think with a shotgun?), and wounded him.  Said perp sued the owner and ended up owning his farm.  Total BS.
