Even top ranked police departments who have their officers go to the range to practice only have like a 30% hit rate on a pistol discharge when facing a suspect

Thanks @Chris Duffy I was just about to say this as well. You can go to the range all day but the majority of that won't mean squat once your blood is up and your heart is pumping. That's why hardcore enthusiasts, SWAT, SF, all train like in real life because you will be a lot more accurate that way.

  The only thing he did wrong is the little tough guy act at the end. I would advise anyone in this situation, don't publicly invite "all comers" to try you out, because someone just might take you up on it. The next guy might be armed too. It's better to do what you have to do and move on.
