I'm new here and there seem to be a lot going on here. I just want to find out how long it took for I-130 petition to be approved. I am a US citizen and my wife is in Ghana. Thanks

Welcome. The processing time seems to range between 7-10 months but each service center processes at their own speed. Luckily your case is in Potomac which I believe is (one of) the fastest processing centers.... If you complete your Visa Journey timeline, it provides you with an estimate of when you may receive approval.  My case was sent to Texas and we received our NOA2 after 6 months and 6 days.

Petition approval is only first half of the process, and it depends on the service center assigned, when you submitted it, any RFEs that are unknown that could cause delays, etc.  Average is 6-10 months for the petition.  After that NVC takes three months to receive the file and assign a case number, then you submit more documents and they take another month to process them, then if all is approved at NVC they schedule an interview abroad and depending on the country this can be anywhere from one month to three or four months later.  So the total process from submission of the petition is averaging about 14 months from filing the petition to interview abroad, if there are no RFEs or other delays.

Thanks a lot guys. The replies were really helpful. I got the NOA2 and now waiting for NVC to contact me with the case and invoice number. Should i wait for a week or two before calling them? the NOA2 stated i should wait for 30 days before contacting the NVC if i haven't heard anything from them.
