Monday morning Canada Post said it's "lost" and they are going to write a letter saying so, and I should report it to Passport Canada. I decided (thankfully) to contact the Consulate before contacting Passport Canada. The Consulate very strictly told me to NOT do ANYTHING (about reporting it) until they give me instruction to do so. If I report it before the Consulate says, then I will have to start my visa application over and there will be no compensation.

The wait continues.

Holy hell that’s unimaginable.  I REALLY hope this turns around for you.

Wow!! I can't even imagine the stress you are going through. The whole K-1 process is unnerving enough, then to have this happen. I'm so sorry. I told my fiance when we first started our K-1 that I find many things odd about the way your government works, more frustrating possibly, such as processing times for things, or the ability to get your own personal records without jumping through many hoops and still waiting forever. Did the consulate give any indication as to how long you will have to wait?

this has nothing to do with the government, just a really bad experience with shipping gone wrong, still though the fact that they would even make her re-do her whole visa from scratch is ridiculous, surely they can just make you a new one or at least expedite your case so instead of taking 9 months maybe could have it done much quicker.

They said that they have 10 days to do their searches.
Since it's been over two weeks now, I assume that it is 10 business days from the date my case/inquiry got to the appropriate department in the visa unit and they began working with Canada Post. If my assumptions are correct, then I should hear something at the end of the week. *fingers crossed*

I am REALLY REALLY hoping, that once the consulate's searches are completed and THEY also confirm the package is "lost", that they will just tell me to get new passport and send them in for a reissue on my visas, without waiting and without cost. I am not at fault for losing them, so I would figure I would not be responsible and have to start over and re-pay fees. I never received them to lose, so that should be an exception.

It IS a really bad experience with shipping gone wrong. VERY wrong. Every day I wake up wondering if "we" are in some foreign country, or if our identities are in the process of being stolen. I sincerely hope that other's don't have this experience too, which is partially the reason why I am making such a fuss about it. If I make enough noise, and have various levels of government on Canada Post's behind, perhaps they will be extra diligent when handling such sensitive documents (or any registered mail).

Today was spent scrambling around.
I got the documentation needed from the Consulate, the letter from Canada Post stating my package was "lost" and they exhausted all avenues in their searches for it, I filled out 4 new passport applications, 4 declaration forms for lost/stolen passports for Passport Canada, filed a police report, wrote out a statutory declaration and got it notarized stating everything that was done to try to locate my passports, etc.
Tomorrow morning I am going to the passport office to apply for new passports.

The Consulate said to contact them back when I receive my new passports and they will tell me the next step. I am going to pay for the 24 hour expedited passport return, so hopefully all my paperwork is in order and they are able to process that for me.

I went to the passport office today and put in new applications, unfortunately (even with paying for the express service) I won't be able to pick up the new passports until April 29th.
Only after I have them in my hand, I will find out the process to get the visas reissued.

Do you have a vehicle that you plan on importing? I was just reading about all that stuff and it seems like it is almost harder to be able to do that than it is to go through the K-1 process. It never ends, lol!

It’s a few extra steps, but that was the easiest part of my journey :)

Thinking about you today, I hope all goes well!

Thank you.

On Wednesday the Consulate emailed me, asking for me to sign and return the compensation contract form that I have been holding off on. I told them I would get it to them as soon as possible and asked whether or not the children and myself need to return to Montreal.  (Because if we do, the compensation amount is not nearly enough to cover that).

This morning they emailed me back saying only that they will tell me what to do once I receive my new passports. 🙄
I replied back telling them that I DO have my new passports in hand and told them the new passport numbers. (I picked them up from the Passport Canada office this morning).

No response back from the Consulate, and judging by the time now, I don't think I will get a response until tomorrow at the soonest.
I was hoping to get my new passports sent off to them (or book plane tickets) today...

The waiting still continues..

Seeing as how what was lost in the mail was your passports with your visa's in them and all of your original documentation (birth certificates, etc), did you have to go get all of those replaced as well?
