"Guilty until proven innocent" is the same for every country when it comes to tourist visas. It's the law.

All tourist visa applicants are presumed to have immigrant intent until shown otherwise.

A return flight would be worthless, it means nothing for a tourist visa application.

The embassies specifically tell applicants to never but flight tickets until they physically have their visa in hand.

Ohhh. She has to get a tourist visa. I wasn't aware that was the case. Yeah I wouldn't just buy a flight then.... I just assumed people could go on holidays with out those lol

Why is it going against that though?! I don't understand why they wouldn't be able to visit for a holiday and see their son get married 😕

Did you miss the Tunisia mention?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Never advisable to purchase airline tickets before a visa is approved.  Things are different for Brits and others from the VWP countries.

No but not every single person knows the rules with particular countries. that's why we have people like you, to Inform us and let know.

I don't really know when it comes to these kind of things. I'm from a visa waiver country

Genuine question (not meant to be snarky): if you don’t really know, why are you providing an answer? There are many parts of this forum I don’t go near because I don’t know about the questions being asked in them.

Taken in a non snarky way,

Because I genuinely assumed that someone could visit their son and attend a wedding using proof of a return flight and employment ties. Just because someone doesn't always have the correct answer doesn't mean they can't suggest things and offer support. I'd rather try and help someone then not at all 😊 After all We're all after the same Thing... being reunited with loved ones. And this is a community that helps each other.

I get that, but sometimes well-meaning  advice is wrong, and potentially harmful. In this case it could result in OP’s mom not only without a visa but having lost the money spent on the air ticket too.

fyi: any official US website including the embassy websites for visas (and this is true of both immigrant and non immigrant visas) always tell you not to buy tickets or make any non refundable reservations until you actually have a visa in hand.

Most people from non-VWP countries (i.e. the Western World) need a B visa to visit the US, and for those from MENA nations, Africa, Asia etc they often  face more rejections than approvals for B visas.

Her chances are pretty slim, then...

You said earlier that she doesn't work----home ownership?   How does she support herself?

Has she traveled to other countries before and can show a history of not overstaying?

She never traveled before and my dad is taking care of all the family
