Generally yes. There are some exceptions - citizens of Canada & VWP countries generally only apply for a B visa if there are already issues. PH I consider an exception as well as tourist visa fraud is massive, but K-1 and spousal visas are not scrutinized that heavily.

That number does not reflect Canadians being denied entry into the USA.

 

That number reflects the percentage of Canadians being denied a B visa for the USA.

 

Considering the amount of Canadians who travel freely to the US on their Canadian passport...and the vastly smaller number of Canadians who need a B visa to enter the States, the refusal rate is totally believable.

 

Canadians who need to travel to the US on a B visa are needing to do so because of specific circumstances....otherwise they'd be able to just use their passport.

Of course this isn't much comfort to the OP.  Hopefully it will add a bit more perspective on why the AP stage could be taking so long.  It's unfortunate that people in genuine relationships get caught up in the mess when the US government learns to be extra cautious because of other people from the same country who have tried to skirt the legal process of getting to the US.

@WORRIEDSPOUSE I'm sorry for your stress. I too have experienced this lately. My fiance was given a 221g after his interview and on the day he went to submit everything he was sent away because "it wasn't in the right order and didn't have a cover letter." I was so distraught that as I was driving to work I hit the car in front of me and my airbag deployed. I've been bruised and car-less for the past week and a half. This has all been within a matter of a few weeks! What you are going through is unfair and painful. And I am not trying to overshadow the pain you've been going through. We all have shared that pain at some point. Now is the time to band together and support one another!

Try to be patient. I know it's easier said than done but like others have stated some people are in AP for years. I know it's a scary thought but 3 months isn't that bad.

I understand everyone telling you to relax and count your blessings and hang in there - honestly, that's all you CAN do. Having a panic attack over it won't change things (I can vouch for that one - I had my fair share while in the midst of the same waiting process myself). But sometimes you just need a release. For some, it's writing. I'm the same way so, again, I understand! You feel like you're going to go crazy, or implode, or just spontaneously combust, it can feel so overwhelming sometimes. I get it.

My car accident was a HUGE wake-up call for me! I've been so stressed out and feeling so helpless that I let it get the best of me. Thankfully my car is salvageable and I should be getting it back soon. And thankfully they took all his paperwork last Monday along with his passport.  All I can do now is wait and pray... Just like everyone else.

I guess patience isn't my forte. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. So was he able to submit the missing documents? My husband was just given a 221G white slip and wasn't asked for any additional documents. He still haven't heard from the embassy I frequently email them but one a month and all I get is an automated generated email :-( I guess we all need to bond together and help each other through this difficult process. Be safe on the road.. Have you contacted the embassy? Usually US embassy's have emails so that you can contact them. Also, maybe try contacting your senator/congressman?

As a matter of fact I have a case open with senator Gillibrand's office in New York City I literally just received confirmation that her office have escalated an inquiry into my case with the US Consulate in Georgetown, Guyana.. Keeping my fingers cross, God's willing we will hear back shortly.. Thanks again for your kind words.

The vast majority of Canadians who enter the US do so with their passport, for short visits as a tourist of a few weeks at a time, or a day or less for shopping, gas, etc.  Millions per year cross back and forth this way from Canada to the US with no visa needed.  It's the B visa applications that are denied at nearly 40% because those applying want to stay for a long time (not generally needed for a short vacation), and some are from other countries who want to enter the US from Canada as a back door and stay illegally.  So the 40% denial rate is for a very small number of special cases and many of them have suspicious motives for visiting, past overstays, not Canadian citizen, etc.

Two quick notes:

1) Canadians are granted the same length of stay as B visa travelers. Typically this is up to 6 months. There is no benefit of obtaining a B visa if they qualify for visa-less travel.

2) The refusal numbers posted are based on nationality, not country of the embassy/consulate.
