You file an amended return.   Form 1040X.

Can i amend it or not ?

Yes file an amendment. if you were legally married on December 31 of that tax year, by law you must file married jointly or married seperate unless head of household applies. I got married December 2018 and this year i filed married jointly.

it could take anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks. First you have to request an ITIN number if the spouse does not have a SSN. That could take 4-6 weeks. Then afet the time it takes to process the return.
