We received an RFE on February the 5th. We are currently waiting on the IRS to send the tax returns for our co-sponsor. It has been almost a week and they are not here yet.

Well I just happened to check the Case status APP and it says as of 7 days ago our case is ready to be scheduled for an interview and that they will schedule our interview and send us a notice???!!! How can this be when our RFE has not been sent back yet and per their information we have until May the 2nd to respond to the RFE that is over a month away! The only thing holding up the submission is the (removed) tax returns. My Co-sponsor could not locate his 2016 tax return and we are unable to get his transcripts online because it requires a Credit Card. He only has a debit card. I really hope they are not going to try to set up the interview before our RFE is fullfilled on our end. Anyone ever seen this happen????

There is no charge for getting tax transcripts.

One of the proof of identity to make an account is to provide last 8 digits of a credit card, auto loan account number, mortgage account number, etc to match the IRS data base with the account your making.

I’m not the OP but it’s not unheard of. I have two auto loans and neither of them worked to verify my identity. Sometimes things seem easy when they aren’t.

Negative, that was the reason I mentioned the credit card in the first place. I very well know tax transcripts are free. It costs nothing to download or request them online to be mailed to you. In the case of my Co-sponsor, he owns his home and its paid for..so no mortgage.. He has no car loans, no credit cards or any existing loan account that the satisfies the IRS for recovering online transcripts. This is not the primary question and is getting off topic. The primary question is has anyone seen an interview called when an RFE has not expired nor has been answered by the applicants.

Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview doesn't mean an interview is being scheduling. It merely means your local field office has received your case. A lot of people stay with this status for months or even a year depending on their local field office processing time.

"Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for An Interview" is NOT the same as "Interview has been scheduled," as @Bonnie_Clyde stated. I've seen timelines where interviews are scheduled soon after this status change, but the overwhelming majority of cases are stuck at this stage for several months. Focus on completing the RFE materials. Even when your status eventually updates to "Interview has been scheduled," you should still have about a month of lead time before your actual interview date.

Op can get free tax transcripts just not online, so they’re waiting to get them in the mail. Can take up to 10 days.
