As info, there have been recent posts where folks got rfe’s for missing bank/cc statements, so to err on the side of caution, we included every single one, which really isn’t a whole lot, because our statements are 1-2 pages.  These people could have had substantially light evidence, so perhaps were more heavily relying on that?  Who knows.

 

Don’t forget the front/back of the greencard.

 

Also, consider sending in a copy of the marriage certificate, especially if your file will go to a different service center.  Yes, they have it on file, but may as well send it for their convenience in the event it’s not a digitalized file.

Like I said, I was just thinking out loud and debating it in my head.  I personally used a transcript, but only sent the first page showing both names and joint. We didn't get an RFE. I guess it come down to the quality of what you have and the total picture it paints.

This was discussed in a thread recently and I'm planning on sending all bank statements now.

 

Why? Because bank statements can be faked. Easily. It's actually frightening how easy it is to fake them and trust me, people do. I actually know for a fact that bank statements are faked to get visas, I've seen it with my own eyes (I used to work at a modeling agency who had to get visas for foreign girls to work in the US, faking statements was commonplace). So it wouldn't shock me if USCIS has caught onto this and is now requesting all statements for continuity to make sue they're real. I just don't want to take any chances if USCIS is getting more savvy to scammer's tricks. So I'm planning to send in all of the statements.

If the point is filing together to show commingling of finances, does it matter if you verify your income with a wage statement (W2)? This isn't an affidavit of support where they want to know your income. It's only the filing status. I agree transcripts are probably the best way to go since it comes from the IRS so the joint filing is proven. Plus it's less paper to send. 

 

I don't get why people want to send bank statements for every single month either. It think it's more important to show the account is actually used. A joint account with a $100 balance for two years looks suspicious. Money going in and coming out is what I would want to show. The four total statements I chose showed big fluctuations in balances, as well a a good span of dates. 

 

Basically they can’t accept incomplete proof as complete proof. A tax transcript or a 1040 and W2 are considered complete proof, just sending one or the other is incomplete, so if you go ahead and just send the 1040, you won’t get RFE’d for the purpose of showing tax returns or to show how much money you make, you’ll get the RFE because the proof you sent isn’t complete enough to accept and they are requesting that you complete your proof.

 

it may be possible if you had insanely strong proof, that you don’t even need to send tax proof. But it’s weighed so heavily when it comes to proof that they’ll almost always ask for it if your other proof isn’t strong.

 

and with the bank statements, they aren’t worried about balance, they want to see the money being spent, money being deposited, etc.  but like you are thinking, it’s better showing the account usage than just the balance. We sent the full statements (including debits and deposits) for each quarter for two years.

Correct, if you get the transcripts you don’t need to do W2 or 1040. The transcript is better proof than the 1040/W2 combo.

 

doing both together wouldn’t help or hurt, it’s proof of the same thing. It’d be like sending a copy of your lease to show you live there, and then sending a copy of your online lease payments showing you live there.

You do -NOT- have to send 24 months worth of statements in full, that's insane and unnecessary.


RFE's are not the end of the world. It's perfectly fine to send 1040 and W2 combo. Sending 1040 without the W2 is considered an incomplete tax return and will just result in an RFE.

Did you only send a month or two? Did you send complete statements or just the first page? They usually only ask for the full two years of marriage if they didn’t get enough (maybe five full statements over two years) or if say you sent a half a years worth but missed a year and a half (they want to know if y’all didn’t start comingling until the recent 6 months)

 

Also note that if you don’t have two years of bank statements the right response is to send a statement why. Some people refuse to have joint accounts even if they know USCIS wants it, they have been approved for ROC before because they wrote a statement on how they commingle, pay bills, etc together without having a joint account.

i sent 4 months worth of full statements with transactions.

Oh ya that’s not enough. At least 8 statements for two years for the minimum, one for each quarter your married. (So say February, May, August, December, repeat)

 

they want to see consistency. So if you only sent like say two statements per yer, it shows pretty large gaps that are missing, or if you only sent four months that were close then there’s gaps that they can question if y’all were even on the account together prior to those statements.

since they requested two years worth, in said it! and printed 3 years worth and mailed. got a notice today my response was received. now the waiting begins!
