Dates appear in the conversation, on a desktop, just like missileman said. I'm looking at my most recent FB conversation right now, where timestamps indicate at the top of conversations the days on which they occurred. How they are displayed might vary from device type to device type, but they are displayed. You can download conversations, but you don't have to do so in order to get the necessary screenshots.

Sorry, but the only date on my FB screen is the Windows date inthe lower right corner of the screen.  Maybe I have something turned off in settings.

EDIT:  I have discovered that if I scroll backward far enough the dates begin to appear where the days of the week change in sequence.  It's a mystery to me why FB finds it necessary to omit dates from most recent messaging.  I also discovered that it isn't necessary to take screenshots.  Instead you can right click in an open area and select the print option.  From the print window you can print or "print to file" which creates a file for future use.  I think what I'll do is create a folder full of dated timeline pages (probably one or two per week) to use as evidence of our ongoing relationship.

If you go back far enough (more than one week back) you will start to see the date and and time stamp before a new chat.  I would use that page when you do a flash screen. I just spent 2 hours tonight doing the flash screen snaps from each month, like 5-6 snaps from each month that I will put in a collage to get ready.

correct!

I remember reading this post but not being able to find the time stamps you were talking about.  I guess I didn't scroll back far enough.  Any idea why they don't time stamp the current timeline?

For people just starting out - I strongly recommend Viber for chat. It has an export to CSV function that is perfect for this. My soon to be fiance (I hope) and I are using viber for chat and Skype for video because we are sharing my screen for her English lessons.

First, I have no idea what CSV is.  Second, if you're anything like us you'll soon find out most of your communication is done by video chat and you say you're using skype for video.  As of today I have been unable to display any date on a skype screen.  If you succeed, please share.

I wish I knew!  They used to. It was so much more organized before. I absolutely hate the new Messages system. 😤

Well, I'm new to social media and I don't like any of it.

CSV is a file format that you can easily import into any spreadsheet program. Then you can delete the unneeded columns and clean up the formatting because sometimes it is a little messy .

Date time stamps on every entry.

Fantastic video chat but no desktop sharing

Second this. Viber is a lifesaver to establish logs, and very user-friendly.
